What are some common challenges an Associate Recruiter might face during the candidate sourcing process?

Associate Recruiters often encounter challenges such as finding qualified candidates in a competitive market, managing high volumes of applications, and ensuring a positive candidate experience throughout the process. They may also need to quickly adapt to changing hiring needs and prioritize multiple open roles at once. Building strong communication with hiring managers and maintaining organized tracking of candidates are key strategies to overcome these obstacles.

What is the difference between Associate Recruiter vs Recruiter?

The main difference between an Associate Recruiter and a Recruiter lies in experience and responsibilities. Associate Recruiters are typically entry-level, supporting senior recruiters and focusing on initial candidate sourcing. Recruiters usually have more experience, handle full-cycle recruiting, and interact directly with clients and candidates. Both roles are essential in the hiring process, but the Recruiter role generally involves greater independence and responsibility.

What are Associate Recruiters?

Associate Recruiters are entry-level professionals who assist in the recruitment process within organizations or staffing agencies. Their main responsibilities include sourcing candidates, screening resumes, conducting initial interviews, and coordinating with hiring managers. They support senior recruiters and help ensure that the hiring process runs smoothly by managing administrative tasks and maintaining candidate databases. Associate Recruiters play a key role in identifying and attracting top talent to meet an organization's staffing needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Associate Recruiter, and why are they important?

To excel as an Associate Recruiter, you need strong interpersonal skills, a basic understanding of talent acquisition processes, and at least a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), LinkedIn Recruiter, and sourcing platforms is commonly required. Excellent communication, organization, and the ability to build relationships help differentiate top performers in this role. These skills are vital to efficiently attract, assess, and engage qualified candidates, ensuring successful hires for the organization.

Job description

About Per Sé Group
At Per Sé Group, our purpose is simple: to help people and companies grow. That belief drives our ambition to become one of the top 50 staffing firms in the country. We specialize in Engineering, Technical, and Construction workforce solutions with deep experience in energy and a growing footprint in other technical markets. We are a performance-driven company where motivated people grow their careers in recruiting and sales - and AI is actively integrated into how we work, keeping us at the forefront of how technology shapes our industry.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Associate Recruiter to help fuel our recruitment engine. In this role, you will identify, engage, and prequalify top candidates to support our Recruiters in building exceptional talent pipelines across the Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, and Engineering sectors.
This is not an HR role, nor does it lead to one. It is the starting point of a sales-oriented recruiting career - one that rewards the people who are motivated to perform, grow, and keep pushing to the next level. Recruiting rewards momentum. The more you develop in this role, the faster you move, and the further you go, the more you earn.
Who Succeeds in This Role
The people who thrive as Associate Recruiters at Per Sé tend to share a few things in common:
  • They have grit. When a stretch of calls goes nowhere, they reset and keep going
  • They are competitive - not just against others, but against themselves. They want to beat yesterday's number
  • They are outgoing and energized by conversations with new people, not worn down by them
  • They engage with the process, not just the tasks - they think about why something works, not just whether it got done
  • They are genuinely curious - they ask questions, dig into the details, and take the time to understand the roles they are sourcing for

This Might Not Be the Role for You If...
  • You are looking for a role in HR, people operations, or a path that leads in that direction
  • You prefer stability over growth and are uncomfortable with change or a shifting pace
  • High-volume phone outreach is not something you see yourself doing day in and day out
  • You do best in environments with a lot of structure and minimal ambiguity
  • You are looking for a role where performance expectations are flexible

Responsibilities
The primary output of this role is a steady pipeline of qualified, interested candidates delivered to our Recruiters. Everything below supports that goal:
  • Source top talent using LinkedIn, job boards, resume databases, referrals, and internal networks
  • Craft and send targeted outreach that not only finds candidates but generates genuine interest in the opportunities we are filling
  • Conduct structured prescreens to assess fit across skills, experience, availability, location, and compensation
  • Deliver recruiter-ready candidates with clear documentation and timely handoffs - not just names in a system
  • Import and maintain accurate candidate records in Bullhorn, ensuring profiles are complete and properly tagged
  • Collaborate with Recruiters to prioritize sourcing needs and ensure consistent pipeline flow
  • Represent Per Sé professionally to every candidate throughout early engagement

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Desire to build a career in recruiting or sales - this role and the Recruiter path it leads to are focused on business development and client delivery, not HR or people operations
  • High sense of urgency and willingness to go above and beyond for our clients and candidates
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to connect with a wide range of personalities
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, competitive environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfort using ATS platforms and sourcing tools; experience with Bullhorn a plus

Compensation & Benefits
In compliance with Illinois pay transparency requirements, the pay range for this role is $40,000 - $45,000/year. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
Our team members receive a comprehensive benefits package which includes:
  • Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Flexible time off + paid holidays + sick time
  • Monthly technology stipend
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Voluntary Disability, Life, and AD&D Insurance
  • Flexible spending accounts
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Referral & employee discount programs
