Information We Collect

User-Provided Information:

You provide us information about yourself, such as your name, address, e-mail address and phone number, if you register for an account with or respond to a post on or through our Service. If you use the ZipHire service, you may provide additional personal information such as your address, job history, and electronic signature. If you correspond with us by email, we may retain the content of your email messages, your email address and our responses. We may also retain any messages you send through our Service. You may provide us information in User Content you post to our Service.

Once you sign up for our Service we allow you to provide additional information about yourself and other people. The additional information we may collect is as follows; information about Candidates such as their name, email address, phone number, resume, experience, education, country and zip code. You may also export your Candidates to an excel spreadsheet to make it easier to manage. Information about additional users you wish to allow access to our Service may include their name and email address.

We will ask you to provide information about hiring companies that may be used on your job pages. This includes, but is not limited to: Company Name, Website, Logo and a description of the company. Candidates may also provide a headshot photo along with their job application. Please note that this photo will be seen by users of the site and the companies in which you have submitted your application. You may remove your photo at any time by emailing us at

When you download and use our Services, we automatically collect information on the type of device you use, operating system version, and the device identifier (or "UDID").

We collect your location based information for the purpose of setting up your phone preferences. We will do not share this information with any third party. If you no longer wish to allow us to track your geo-location information in the Mobile Application you may turn this off at the device level.

Cookies Information:

When you visit our Service, we may send one or more cookies - a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters - to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser and lets ZipRecruiter help you log in faster and enhance your navigation through the site. A cookie may also convey anonymous information about how you browse our Service to us. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive after you close your browser. Persistent cookies may be used by your browser on subsequent visits to the site. Persistent cookies can be removed by following your web browser's directions. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. You can reset your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some features of our Service may not function properly if the ability to accept cookies is disabled.

Log File Information:

Log file information is automatically reported by your browser each time you access a web page. When you use our Service, our servers automatically record certain log file information. These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol ("IP") address, browser type, referring / exit pages and URLs, number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages viewed, and other such information.

Clear Gifs Information:

When you use our Service, ZipRecruiter or our third party analytics providers may employ clear gifs (also known as web beacons) which are used to track the online usage patterns of our users anonymously and help us better manage content on our site by informing us of what content is effective. No personally identifiable information from your ZipRecruiter account is collected using these clear gifs. In addition, we may also use clear gifs in HTML-based emails sent to our users to track which emails are opened by recipients. The information is used to enable more accurate reporting, improve the effectiveness of our marketing, and make ZipRecruiter better for our users.

Tracking across Third Party Websites

We do not track our users across third party websites and thus do not respond to Do Not Track (“DNT”) signals. However, some third party websites do keep track of your browsing activities when they serve you content, which enables them to tailor what they present to you. If you are visiting such sites, certain website browsers allow you to set the DNT signal on your browser so that third parties (particularly advertisers) know you do not want to be tracked.

Third Party Services

ZipRecruiter uses third party analytics services to help understand use of our Service. These third party analytics services collect the information sent by your browser as part of a web page request, including cookies and your IP address. Their use of this information is governed by their Privacy Policy.

Mobile Analytics

We use mobile analytics software to allow us to better understand the functionality of our Mobile Software on your phone. This software may record information such as how often you use the application, the events that occur within the application, aggregated usage, performance data, and where the application was downloaded from..

How We Use Your Information

If you are an Employer: we use the personal information you submit to create your account, allow you to add Candidates and other users, operate, maintain, and provide to you the features and functionality of our Service. We use this information to allow you to better manage who is able to access our Service, view resumes, set up resume alerts (which you may turn off at any time by logging into your account), view posted jobs, view archived jobs, create a new job, rate Candidates, view receipts, determine who may be the right fit as a Candidate for the positions you have open, and to contact you in response to your inquiries. If you use the ZipHire Service, we use this information to allow you to set up and complete the new hire onboarding process.

If you are a Candidate User: we use the personal information you submit to create your account, allow you to view, respond to, and save, job postings, allow Employers to respond to your job posting responses, allow you to post and share your resume on our Service, provide you with job recommendations based upon your history or preferences, and to contact you in response to your inquiries. If you use the ZipHire Service, we use this information to allow you to fill out the documents you are requested to complete as part of the new hire onboarding process.

By providing ZipRecruiter your email address, you consent to our using the email address to send you Service-related notices, including any notices required by law, in lieu of communication by postal mail. You also agree that we may send you notifications of activity on our Service to the email address you give us, in accordance with any applicable privacy settings. We may use your email address to send you other messages, such as newsletters, changes to features of our Service, or special offers. If you do not want to receive such email messages, you may opt out or change your preferences in your Account page (for Employers) or by following the opt-out instructions in the message. Opting out may prevent you from receiving email messages regarding updates, improvements, or offers. You may not opt out of Service-related e-mails.

If you choose to use our invitation service to invite a friend to our Service, we provide you with a link to copy and paste to share with your friends, or spread the word on linkedin, facebook or twitter. We provide you with a unique link ID so that you earn credit for each friend that joins the site by following your link. If you wish to invite a friend to view our blog posts we will ask you for that person's email address and automatically send an email invitation. ZipRecruiter stores this information to send this email, to register your friend if your invitation is accepted, and to track the success of our invitation service. ZipRecruiter may use certain information about you and/or your User Content internally for purposes such as analyzing how our Service is used, diagnosing service or technical problems, maintaining security, and personalizing content.

ZipRecruiter reserves the right, but has no obligation, to monitor the User Content you post on our Service. We reserve the right to remove any such information or material for any reason or no reason, including without limitation if we determine, in our sole discretion, that such information or material violates, or may violate, any applicable law or our Terms of Use Agreement, or to protect or defend our rights or property or those of any third party. ZipRecruiter also reserves the right to remove information upon the request of any third party.

We use cookies, clear gifs, and log file information to: (a) remember information so that you will not have to re-enter it during your visit or the next time you visit the site; (b) provide custom, personalized content and information; (c) monitor the effectiveness of our Service; (d) monitor aggregate metrics such as total number of visitors, traffic, and demographic patterns; (e) diagnose or fix technology problems reported by our Users or engineers that are associated with certain IP addresses; (f) help you efficiently access your information after you sign in; and (h) track User Content and Users to the extent necessary to comply as a service provider with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other applicable laws; and (i) automatically update the ZipRecruiter application on your devices.

How We Share Your Information

Personally Identifiable Information:

ZipRecruiter will not rent or sell your personally identifiable information with third parties other than as disclosed within this privacy policy. ZipRecruiter may share your personally identifiable information with third parties who are assisting us in providing our Service to you. The types of third parties who we may share your personally identifiable information are credit card processing company, customer service provider, and an email service provider. If we do this, such third parties' use of your information will be bound by this Privacy Policy. We may store personal information in locations outside the direct control of ZipRecruiter (for instance, on servers or databases co-located with hosting providers). We will require that such hosting providers to use industry standard methods to safeguard such personal information, but we cannot be responsible for any breaches or unauthorized disclosures by such hosting providers.

Any personal information or content that you voluntarily disclose for posting to our Service, such as User Content, becomes available to the public. If you remove information that you posted to our Service, copies may remain viewable in cached and archived pages of our Service, or if other Users have copied or saved that information. If you respond to a job posting on our Service, we will share your response with the Employer that posted the job.

If you use the ZipHire Service as a Candidate, we will share personal information you upload to our Service during the new hire onboard process with your prospective Employer.

From time to time, we may run contests, special offers, or other events or activities ("Events") on our Service together with a third party partner. If you provide information to such third parties, you give them permission to use it for the purpose of that Event and any other use that you approve. We cannot control third parties' use of your information. If you do not want your information to be collected by or shared with a third party, you can choose not to participate in these Events.

As we develop our business, we may buy or sell assets or business offerings, including those related to our Service. If we sell some or all of our Service, the buyer may need information about users of the Service in order to continue operating our Service in a similar manner as before such transaction. Non-Personally Identifiable Information:

We may share non-personally identifiable information (such as anonymous usage data, referring/exit pages and URLs, platform types, number of clicks, etc.) with interested third parties to help them understand the usage patterns for certain ZipRecruiter services.

ZipRecruiter may allow third-party ad servers or ad networks to serve advertisements on our Service. These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to send, directly to your browser, the advertisements and links that appear on ZipRecruiter. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. They may also use other technologies (such as cookies, JavaScript, or web beacons) to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and to personalize the advertising content. ZipRecruiter does not provide any personally identifiable information to these third-party ad servers or ad networks without your consent. However, please note that if an advertiser asks ZipRecruiter to show an advertisement to a certain audience and you respond to that advertisement, the advertiser or ad server may conclude that you fit the description of the audience they are trying to reach. How We Protect Your Information

ZipRecruiter cares about the integrity and security of your personal information. We cannot, however, ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to ZipRecruiter or guarantee that your information on our Service may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. ZipRecruiter is not responsible for the functionality or security measures of any distributor.

To protect your privacy and security, we take industry-standard reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting you access to your account. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your unique password and account information, and for controlling access to your email communications from ZipRecruiter, at all times.

When you enter sensitive information (such as credit card number) on our order forms, we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). Data is also stored in an encrypted form.

Compromise of Personal Information

In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, ZipRecruiter will promptly notify those persons whose personal information has been compromised, in accordance with the notification procedures set forth in this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise required by applicable law.

Customer Testimonials

We post customer testimonials on our Web site which may contain personally identifiable information. We do obtain the customer’s consent via email prior to posting the testimonial to post their name along with their testimonial.

Public Forums

Our Web site offers publicly accessible blogs or community forums. You should be aware that any information you provide in these areas may be read, collected, and used by others who access them.

Social Media (Features) and Widgets

Our Web site includes Social Media Features, such as the Facebook Like button and Widgets, such as the Share this button or interactive mini-programs that run on our site. These Features may collect your IP address, which page you are visiting on our site, and may set a cookie to enable the Feature to function properly. Social Media Features and Widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site. Job Widget

We allow you to embed a job widget to instantly publish and list all of your job openings on your own Company website as well as several other Job Boards. This widget does not collect any personal information, it will simply link back to the job openings that are hosted on our site.

Your Choices About Your Information

You may, of course, decline to submit personally identifiable information through our Service, in which case ZipRecruiter may not be able to provide certain services to you. You may update, delete inaccuracies, or correct your account information and email preferences at any time by logging in to your account and selecting email/password. You can review, delete inaccuracies and correct the information about you that ZipRecruiter keeps on file by contacting us directly at We will respond to your request to access within 30 days.

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Information Related to Data Collected for our Employer Clients

ZipRecruiter may collect information under the direction of its employer clients ("Employer" or “Client”) and in some cases, may have no direct relationship with the individuals whose personal data such Employers process. If you are a customer of an Employer and would no longer like to be contacted by the Employer, please directly contact the Employer with which you interacted. If you are a Candidate under the ZipHire service, you should contact ZipRecruiter and the Employer. We may transfer personal information to companies that help us provide our Service.

Access and Retention of Data Controlled by Employers

With the exception of a Candidate using the ZipHire service, ZipRecruiter has no direct relationship with the individuals whose personal data it processes. An individual who seeks access, or who seeks to correct, amend, or delete inaccurate data should direct his or her query to the Employer (the data controller). If requested to remove data, we will respond within 30 days.

We will retain personal data we process on behalf of Employers for as long as needed to provide services to an Employer. ZipRecruiter will retain this personal information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
