Assistant Cook

WSFSSH MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of WSFSSH is to provide safe, affordable, senior housing that integrates compassionate property management with supportive services to enhance the independence and dignity of each resident. WSFSSH creates and preserves affordable housing while supporting the development of healthy neighborhoods.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and or Cook 2#, the Assistant Cook will be responsible for the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals for our senior residents.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with team members to prepare and distribute meals to senior residents
  • Follow all kitchen evaluated recipes as required by Department of Housing (DOH)โ€ฏโ€ฏ
  • Responsible for cleaning of food service areas, equipment, kitchen, storage area, and dining area
  • Follow all food sanitary and safety procedures outlined by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene regarding time and temperatures, food storage and nutritional guidelines.โ€ฏ
  • Assist in accepting food deliveries and storage of deliveries while adhering to all DOH regulationsโ€ฏ
  • Assist with safe handling and temperature control of prepared foods
  • Assist with receiving, dating and storing all food items
  • Meet with supervisors on a regular basis to discuss food serviceโ€ฏ
  • Assist in the monitoring of dining room during meals
  • Attend department meetings as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • Prepare meals in the absence of the Cook #1.โ€ฏ
  • Assist in the clean-up of all food service area when needed, this includes dish washing and trash removal

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals to residents
  • Ability to operate independently in the Cookโ€™s absence
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills
  • Team focused and ability to work effectively with others as part of a team
  • Desire or interest in working and supporting an aging population

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS

  • Obtain and maintain NYC Food Handlers Certificate
  • High school diploma or General equivalency diploma required
  • At least 6 months of cooking and meal preparation experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). โ€ฏ
  • Must be able to lift 25+ lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
