Job description

Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) is looking for an Assistant Cook to support our school lunch program. Key duties include food preparation, service, and clean up under the direction of the Head Cook. Candidates for this position are highly motivated and willing to follow directions to provide safe and nutritious meals at a community school.

KCS is a dual language (Tewa/English) Tribally Controlled Grant school serving Santa Clara Pueblo. We currently serve approximately 125 families, prenatal through 6th grade, and adult learners. KCS is a school grounded in providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that are culturally centered on Tewa language proficiency and interactive, hands-on learning. We support students in their physical and emotional growth as well, valuing student identity and promoting and modeling high self-esteem and confidence.

Working as an Assistant Cook at KCS involves assisting the Head Cook in food preparation activities, assessing condition of food, and serving breakfast and lunch. In this position, the Assistant Cook must be willing to operate a variety of kitchen appliances and instruments. Special attention to sanitation and safety standards is a critical element of this role. The Assistant Cook assists the Head Cook with managing kitchen supply and food inventory, unloading supplies, and organizing storeroom/freezer.

Applicants for this position must have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 6 months experience. The Assistant Cook must have or be willing to obtain a Food Handler Certificate and 6 CEUs of educational food training (this is provided). Ideal candidates for this position have exceptional time management skills and work well with others. Applicants will be required to pass a comprehensive background check and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work at KCS.
