Description
The Assistant Cook supports daily meal service for residents and tenants by preparing baked goods, salads, and desserts, as well as assisting with food preparation and kitchen operations. This role helps ensure meals are safe, nutritious, and served in a welcoming, respectful environment that supports person-centered care.
The Assistant Cook follows standardized recipes, portion guidelines, and food safety protocols to ensure the preparation of high-quality and consistent food. In addition to food preparation, this position assists with meal service, receives and stores groceries, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and compliant kitchen in accordance with sanitation and safety standards.
As part of the Valley Senior Living team, the Assistant Cook contributes to a culture that values dignity, choice, and meaningful connections with residents.
Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required. Coursework in food preparation, experience with modified diets, or prior work in a healthcare or senior living dining environment is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
This role prepares baked goods, salads, desserts, and foods for therapeutic diets using standardized recipes. The Assistant Cook assists with receiving and storing food supplies, supports special events, and serves meals in a manner that is both appealing and respectful, while adhering to portion and dietary guidelines.
The position also includes cleaning and sanitizing dishes, equipment, and work areas; recording food temperatures; and following all safety, infection control, and compliance requirements. The Assistant Cook works closely with cooks, supervisors, and dining staff to support smooth daily operations and a positive dining experience for residents.
