JOB SUMMARY: The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and executing the Company's Food Safety/Sanitation Program. This role will be responsible for ensuring the program meets standards and expectations, as well as compliance with regulatory requirements.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Know and understand all company Food Safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain food codes, regulatory policies, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) regulations for changes and updates.
  • Review and follow up as necessary on all regulatory inspection reports pertaining to food safety/sanitation, weights and measures, and COOL; egg inspection for the State of Kentucky and tobacco compliance checks for the State of Tennessee will require review and follow up as well.
  • Evaluate food safety and sanitation issues at store level for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as with KVAT Food Stores standards and policies.
  • Assist stores in resolving issues identified during food safety inspections, regulatory inspections, and normal business activities. Solicit involvement in other departments as necessary.
  • Interact with District Managers, Store Managers, and Supervisors on various issues concerning food safety/sanitation, regulatory, weights and measures, and COOL inspections.
  • Interact with Human Resources and the Director of Healthy Initiative on issues pertaining to associate health as related to the food codes. Additionally support the stores with material/information to educate associates as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Training department to identify, develop, and implement training for food safety/sanitation, regulatory, weights and measures, and COOL issues.
  • Interact with store personnel with questions or issues concerning food safety/sanitation, regulatory, weights and measures, and COOL inspections.
  • Provide coaching and training to all store associates and company personnel concerning food safety/sanitation, weights and measures, and COOL.
  • Serve as liaison between KVAT Food Stores and regulatory agencies concerning food safety/sanitation, weights and measures, COOL and any other area needed.
  • Provide proper training in food safety/sanitation, regulations, weights and measures, and COOL inspections to new management personnel and their responsibilities for each.
  • Supervise and maintain the Company's sanitation and chemical programs.
  • Supervise and maintain the Company's poly cutting board resurfacing program.
  • Supervise and maintain the Company's Food Safety program.
  • Responsible for attending on-site work during scheduled shifts to adhere to company time and attendance policies.
