Job description

If you believe in the Boys and Girls Club of Winnemucca, you'll be excited by a new opportunity funded by the state of NV: Apprentice Cook!
Because this program is funded by a state-funded workforce development grant, the state does require that participants be 24 years of age or younger.
At our Clubhouse, you'll have the opportunity to create healthy, tasty meals for community youth, inspired by GREAT values: Generosity, Respect, Encouragement, Accountability, and Trustworthiness. Boys & Girls Club is committed to practicing those values to create a community organization where you can be sure you're making a difference.
We are looking for full-time applicants available to work the same hours/shift every day Monday through Friday, ideally from 9am to 6pm, but at least 30 hours over the week, as well as to commit to completing workforce development outside of your scheduled 30 hours
This role also includes some evenings and weekends throughout the year.
This position does require that you be over the age of 21 with a valid driver license and clean driving record.
Applicants with a desire to commit to a culinary career are preferred, but no experience is required.

Responsibilities for Apprentice Cook:
With the guidance of our well-developed food program, you will:
  • Prepare food
  • Clean and sanitize spaces and equipment
  • Receive, label, rotate, and stock food, dairy, and produce

These duties include:
  • Moving large amounts of inventory
  • Washing, chopping, and sorting ingredients
  • Measuring quantities of ingredients and seasonings
  • Washing dishes and utensils
  • Taking out trash
  • Driving food to area locations
  • Maintaining the safety of our children and staff, and ensuring an optimal experience for all

Applicants must be or become ServSafe certified within 90 days of employment.
Hiring Process:
  • Application review (A complete application is required to move forward.)
  • Phone screen after complete, qualified application
  • Interview scheduled
  • Final decision typically made within five to seven business days of application

Additional Qualifications for Entry-Level Cook
  • Must pass Drug Test (for drugs illegal in the state of Nevada)
  • Must Pass Background Check
  • Must provide references
  • Enjoys being busy with a structured and orderly series of tasks
  • Willing to prep food to exact instructions
  • Basic food knowledge, such as ingredients and measurements
  • Basic math skills for cooking
  • Great speaking and customer service skills to communicate effectively with team
  • Dedicated to local community and youth
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds

Education:
  • High school or GED (Preferred)
