Job description

TITLE: Pre-Sales Engineer (Low Voltage)
LOCATION: Ashburn, VA
POSITION SUMMARY: The Pre-Sales Engineer, Low Voltage supports CPG in the growth, planning, pricing, and implementation of White Space Fit Out initiatives, with a strong focus on low voltage cabling and infrastructure. This role assists in developing low voltage cost estimates and budgets for new projects across a portfolio of fast-paced construction projects, specifically related to CSI Division 27 scope. The Pre-Sales Engineer is involved in solutioning, pricing, proposal development, and implementation planning for structured cabling and related low voltage work. This position supports key White Space Fit Out components, including multi-tier basket tray, cabinet placement, bonding, ladder rack, fiber runner applications, fiber splicing, and testing reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Review and interpret RFP/RFQ documents from customers and support the request for information process as it relates to low voltage and related White Space Fit Out project scope.
  • Create detailed cabling layouts, pathway designs, and test plans for structured cabling systems, including CAT6/CAT6a and fiber optic systems.
  • Prepare conceptual design documents illustrating structural, cabling, and physical networking systems, including topology requirements.
  • Review, create, and edit structured cable test scripts, procedures, and results.
  • Identify project risks and challenges during the solutioning process.
  • Assist in developing rough order of magnitude estimates and formal estimates for potential low voltage projects or low voltage portions of larger efforts.
  • Support proposal development and deliverable preparation.
  • Maintain a well-organized database of bid documents for reference upon contract award and to support the kickoff process with the Preconstruction Manager.
  • Identify additional revenue opportunities for CPG, as applicable.
  • Coordinate with personnel from sales, engineering, preconstruction, execution, and finance teams.
  • Collect quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers related to assigned scopes of work.
  • Review and assess cost estimates.
  • Identify labor, material, cost, and time requirements by researching proposals, blueprints, and related documents.
  • Conduct site visits and document findings for distribution to the CPG team.
  • Create shop drawings and related documentation for potential change orders during project execution.
  • Perform takeoffs and generate bills of materials for overhead cable tray, ladder rack, and fiber runner systems.
  • Perform site walks to properly price material and labor for new opportunities.
  • Travel to data center sites for system audits, engineering studies, and as-built updates.
  • Follow applicable industry standards, including ANSI, TIA/EIA, NFPA, and BICSI.

Education/Experience:
  • 5–10 years of structured cabling, low voltage, fiber optic installation, estimation, and on-site project management experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, with specific knowledge of mission critical systems and hyperscale data centers.
  • Ability to interpret contract terms, conditions, and exhibits as applicable to project requirements.
  • Experience with data center design, installation, and testing of fiber network systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and justifying budgets.
  • Ability to create and maintain processes for project documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to think creatively and identify innovative solutions before and during the construction process to reduce costs without impacting quality or reliability.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • OSHA 30 preferred.
Computer Skills:
  • Windows power user skill set and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Accubid, RS Means, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Fluke, Viavi, and other assorted fiber testing equipment.
  • Experience with Fluke LinkWare, Viavi J-Reporter, and/or other testing platform software.
  • Experience with Fujikura, Sumitomo, and/or similar splicing tools and software.
  • Experience with Procore software for vendor management.
