What is a Payroll Analyst?
A Payroll Analyst is responsible for coordinating and processing various payrolls, participating in the preparation, maintenance, processing, analysis, and auditing of manual and automated payroll data. A Payroll Analyst ensures the accuracy and completeness of payroll transactions within all federal and state regulations.
What does a Payroll Analyst do?
  • Processes Weekly, Semi-Monthly, and Monthly non-exempt and exempt payrolls for union and non-union employees
  • Reviews and balances payrolls before and after they have been processed. Validates confirmed reports
  • Executes time and attendance processing and interface with payroll
  • Keeps informed of regulations, interpretations and practices pertaining to the payroll accounting function
  • Follows policies and procedures; develops and/or recommends new or revised procedures for improving the overall efficiency of the payroll department
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of periodic/special reports for government agencies, tax authorities, insurance companies, industry associations, and other units of the Company as required
  • Responds to various audit and tax agency inquiries and requests
  • Processes employee data (new hires, pay changes, employee changes)
  • Completes payroll filings and mailings as necessary
  • Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transactions will be processed accurately and timely
  • Processes pay changes, tax changes, direct deposit changes
  • Responsible for processing wage garnishments/liens in accordance with federal and state laws
  • Researches, analyzes and resolves payroll related problems or questions by collecting and analyzing information
  • Communicates with employees and other departments to answer questions and resolve problems
  • Maintains employees' confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested
  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Payroll Analyst?
Required:
  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. In lieu of an associate's degree, a High School or Equivalency Diploma and at least two years of payroll, accounting, human resources, or related experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and the ability to learn new computer software programs quickly
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize all necessary software programs
  • Ability to multi-task, and work under tight deadlines with flexibility
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail, well-developed written and verbal communication skills, ability to take initiative, as well as excellent time-management and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to work and respond during non-traditional hours as needed
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • FPC Certification
  • Experience in Workday
  • Advanced experience with Excel, V lookup and pivot tables
