Job Description
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Payroll & Tax Supervisor with strong operational expertise and a solid understanding of Workday Payroll functionality. This role will oversee payroll processing, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and manage critical year-end activities such as W-2 filings and tax reconciliations.
The Payroll & Tax Supervisor will supervise payroll staff, provide direction and support in day-to-day operations, and ensure the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services across Shriners Children's. This position will also support audits, reporting, and tax-related functions, contributing to the integrity and efficiency of payroll operations organization-wide.
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to payroll staff, including assigning tasks, monitoring workload distribution, and reviewing work for accuracy.
  • Utilize Workday to manage payroll transactions, audits, and reporting.
  • Oversee year-end processes including W-2 generation, distribution, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Manage payroll tax filings and coordinate with external vendors or agencies as needed.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests and support audit preparation.
  • Generate and analyze payroll and tax reports for finance, HR, and compliance teams.
  • Collaborate with HRIS and Finance teams to resolve payroll-related issues and improve processes.
  • Support the professional development of payroll team members and promote consistent application of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on payroll operations, tax compliance, and system functionality.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including supervisory or team lead responsibilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of Workday Payroll and related reporting tools.
  • Experience with W-2 filings, payroll tax compliance, and audit support.
  • Advanced understanding of payroll tax regulations and multi-state tax requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or multi-state payroll environments.
  • Familiarity with Workday integrations and payroll configuration.
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.

The pay range for this position is $73,569.60 - $110,344.00. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
