These positions typically require extensive industry experience, strong networks, and advanced sourcing skills. Compensation varies based on industry, location, and success rate.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Lead Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Lead Recruiter, you need strong talent acquisition expertise, interview and assessment skills, and typically a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and relevant HR certifications (such as SHRM-CP) is highly valued. Job description

Lead Recruiter | AI Startup | South Bay Area | On-site | VC Backed

We're partnering with a fast-moving, early-stage AI company to find their next Lead Recruiter, someone who's built and owned a recruiting function before, and is ready to do it again.

You will inherit active reqs, existing processes, and the autonomy to rebuild where you see fit. This is not a coordinator role, a support role, or a slot in a big TA org. You'll be a one-person team, trusted to run full-cycle hiring across engineering, GTM, and operations for a company building and deploying real AI systems.

What You'll Own

  • Full-cycle recruiting across active reqs, sourcing, screening, scheduling, closing
  • Custom outbound for the hardest technical roles to attract the best talent across the Bay Area
  • Construct offers, model equity, and close candidates against competing options
  • Clean pipelines, structured scorecards, and fast scheduling in Ashby
  • Partner with hiring managers and ops on each new hire's Day 1 to make sure they ramp fast
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to build and calibrate structured interview rubrics
  • Run data-informed debriefs, and maintain a consistent, high bar across every hiring loop.

Your Background

5 years plus experience as a founding recruiter or owned a function at an early-stage startup. You will also have closed hard technical hires and figured it out without a playbook. You're the person who gets things done, and people notice.

Bonus if you've recruited in the deep-tech space and if you've scaled a Series A/B startup past 200 headcount.

The Details

  • 📍 South Bay SF, CA 5 days a week in-office (relocation considered)
  • 🏢 Early-stage AI company

If this sounds like the role you've been waiting to step back into, let's talk.
