Job Overview

Crosby Bar at the award-winning Crosby Street Hotel, part of the internationally recognized Firmdale Hotels group, is seeking a motivated, dedicated, and professional Kitchen Commis to join our culinary team in the heart of SoHo. Renowned for our refined yet relaxed approach to luxury hospitality, we offer an inspiring, creative, and supportive kitchen environment where quality, teamwork, and professionalism are valued.

The Kitchen Commis will support the kitchen brigade by preparing ingredients, assisting in cooking, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace across our restaurant, room service, and events. This role is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic culinary professional who is passionate about food, eager to learn, and committed to contributing to consistently high standards, customer satisfaction, and memorable guest experiences.


Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

  • Station Setup & Inventory: Set up and stock kitchen stations with all necessary supplies prior to service. Monitor inventory, restock as needed, and assist with the proper storage, labeling, and rotation of food products and leftovers.
  • Food Preparation & Cooking: Carry out food preparation tasks including chopping vegetables, basic butchery, portioning, and sauce preparation according to established recipes and standards. Cook menu items under supervision and in close cooperation with the rest of the kitchen team.
  • Service Execution: Ensure that dishes are delivered simultaneously, consistently, to specification, and in a timely fashion.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the kitchen staff to ensure smooth, high-quality service. Answer, report, and accurately follow all instructions from the Executive Chef and Sous Chefs.
  • Safety & Sanitation: Maintain strict cleanliness and organization of workstations during and after service. Strictly adhere to nutrition, food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive, professional, and respectful attitude and approach toward coworkers and guests.


Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Proven cooking experience in a professional kitchen environment (e.g., as a commis, line chef, restaurant cook, or prep cook).
  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of basic cooking techniques, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and food preparation procedures.
  • Pace & Precision: Ability to work efficiently, with accuracy and speed, in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strict attention to detail.
  • Core Competencies: Strong organizational, teamwork, and communication skills, with a willingness to take direction and an eagerness to learn and grow within a high-standard environment.
