Description

As Assistant Chef, you will support the Chef in the running and maintenance of the back-of-house staff and operations across all Northern California locations in North Beach, Union Street, Berkeley, and Hayes Valley. You will assist in managing the daily operations of the kitchen, oversee the kitchen staff to ensure that the highest quality of cuisine is served to our guests, ensure that all food safety guidelines are met, and any other tasks pertinent to the effective operation of the back-of-house.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Refer to the list of needed ingredients on a day-to-day basis and check inventory
  • Assist the Chef in informing the kitchen staff of their schedules and delegating appropriate duties
  • Assist Chef in cooking dishes according to set recipes and ensuring staff are cooking according to set recipes
  • Ensure that food items are stored in a safe and orderly manner
  • Rotate food items as standardized in the kitchen rule book
  • Maintain kitchen order by ensuring the cleanliness of tables, counters, and work areas
  • Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Maintain knowledge of all recipes so that the head chef s place can be filled effectively in case of absenteeism
  • Make certain that appropriate portions have been dished out
  • Deal with customers complaints and/or suggestions as needed
  • Assist in the completion and timely submission of all inventory and restaurant cleaning checklists to operations and HR respectively.
  • Maintain vendor relationships
  • Vigilant and consistent monitoring of all company communications to ensure important and/or time sensitive information is received and understood
  • Consistently and effectively communicating any employee information such as incidences, leaves of absence, write ups, complaints and/or terminations/resignations in a timely manner to Human Resources
  • Assist in training all chefs, cooks, and kitchen staff
  • Attending all mandatory meetings

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a back-of-house management position
  • 2+ experience as a chef, in addition to experience as a sous chef or line cook
  • Open availability for scheduling
  • Ability to oversee and manage kitchen operations
  • Ability to remain productive when pulled in many different directions
