Bakery chefs, also called pastry chefs, create baked goods for your store or company. In this role, you may follow the recipes selected by your employer to make a variety of baked goods and fillings, or you may be asked to develop your own desserts to be highlighted at the store. Some bakery chefs may also make different kinds of loaves of bread. Your job duties include checking inventory to ensure you have sufficient amounts of the ingredients you need for the day, measuring and mixing the ingredients, baking the dessert, then packaging it for distribution or presenting it for sale. You may also be responsible for ordering more ingredients when stock runs low. Most bakery chefs work early in the day to make sure the goods are ready for sale when the store opens, but employers may occasionally ask you to work overtime to handle special requests from customers.
