Job description

Consumers Energy is Michigan's largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location

This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to Parnall Office located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

 

The Senior Strategy Manager serves as a strategic partner and advisor to the executive team. This role leads the cross-functional initiatives, delivers complex objective analyses and insights, and executes strategic priorities. A core focus of the role is leading the Electric Supply organization's nearterm strategy (approximately 2-5 years), ensuring alignment between execution planning, resource adequacy needs, regulatory commitments, and financial objectives in support of our reliability, affordability, and clean goals. The incumbent will spearhead new projects, drive process improvements, enhance customer experiences, and translate strategic goals into actionable, measurable operational plans. They will also oversee the execution of key operational activities.

This position supports business customer communications and engagement, working within a matrixed organization to facilitate cross-functional collaboration, process optimization, and issue resolution. The Senior Strategy Manager plays a central coordinating role across Electric Supply to ensure a holistic, integrated nearterm planning process that connects load forecasts, resource plans, capacity requirements, and execution strategies. The Senior Strategy Manager collaborates closely with peer organizations on complex rate cases, testimony, and tariff development, including drafting testimony. The role also supports alignment of nearterm plans with regulatory and financial frameworks. Additionally, the role is responsible for crafting internal and external communications for use by the Business Center and ESM organizations, partnering with external business associations as needed, and supporting the Rates and Regulatory teams in aligning and implementing tariff changes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide financial oversight of organization to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and long-term strategies.
  • Lead the development and execution of a strategic operations framework aligned with business and corporate priorities that is both agile and scalable.
  • Drive business transformation initiatives to support the transition to fully functional business models across multiple markets.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams focused on improving customer communications and engagement, with an emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Standardize complex operational processes, policies, and systems across multiple product lines and business models within Revenue Operations.
  • Conduct industry research to identify and apply best practices in business operations, organizational design, and technology.
  • Oversee the execution of high-priority and complex initiatives from inception through successful completion.
  • Support Business Customer Solution Account Managers in their work with business customers.
  • Manage the master plan for operationalizing capabilities, including automation, manual processes, and RPA, with defined timelines, milestones, and critical paths.
  • Develop internal and external communications for business customers to support the Business Center and ESM organizations.
  • Own the operational change and ready-line strategy, including managing complex launch activities.
  • Maintain operational dashboards and reporting suites to monitor and provide insights on key metrics and performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to identify needs and deliver effective solutions.
  • Lead and provide feedback on business customer communications in collaboration with peer organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, economics, or related field with seven (7) or more years of experience in business process analysis/reengineering, financial analysis and modeling, organizational analysis, activity-based costing, and performance management.
  • OR Associate's degree in engineering, business, economics, or related field with nine (9) or more years of experience in business process analysis/reengineering, financial analysis and modeling, organizational analysis, activity-based costing, and performance management.
  • OR High school diploma/GED with eleven (11) or more years of experience in business process analysis/reengineering, financial analysis and modeling, organizational analysis, activity-based costing, and performance management.
