Job description

Client Overview:
Our client is an established global biopharmaceutical organization focused on the research, development, and commercialization of innovative therapies. The company operates within a highly regulated environment and partners with external clinical and research organizations to support its development programs. They are currently looking to add a Strategic Sourcing Manager to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$45/hr - $50/hr (Based on relevant experience)
Position Overview:
The Strategic Sourcing Manager will support sourcing and procurement activities across the Research and Development organization, with a particular focus on clinical services and Contract Research Organization (CRO) sourcing. This position will partner with internal R&D stakeholders and external suppliers to execute sourcing initiatives, support supplier selection and negotiations, manage vendor relationships, and identify opportunities to improve cost, quality, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities of the Strategic Sourcing Manager:
  • Serve as a procurement partner to Research and Development teams, with a focus on clinical and CRO-related sourcing needs.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing activities, including RFx development, supplier evaluations, vendor selection, contract negotiations, and implementation.
  • Support the sourcing and management of CROs and other clinical service providers.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop effective procurement solutions.
  • Manage supplier relationships to support service quality, reliability, performance, and cost competitiveness.
  • Assist with supplier qualification, risk assessments, and ongoing supplier performance management.
  • Ensure sourcing and procurement activities align with company policies and applicable GMP, GCP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify cost-saving, value optimization, and process improvement opportunities across assigned categories.
  • Partner with Finance to support budgeting, forecasting, and procurement savings tracking.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Clinical, and other internal teams throughout the contracting and supplier management process.
Required Experience/Skills for the Strategic Sourcing Manager:
  • Minimum of 5 years of procurement, strategic sourcing, or category management experience.
  • Experience leading RFx activities, supplier evaluations, contract negotiations, and vendor relationship management.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, GCP, supplier qualification, and procurement risk management practices.
  • Experience using ERP or procurement systems such as Oracle or SAP.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Strategic Sourcing Manager:
  • Clinical services and CRO sourcing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting R&D procurement within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or another regulated industry is strongly preferred.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is required.
