Job description

The Temporary Part-time Senior Director of Strategy for the Innovation Institute is responsible for providing high-level strategic advice and executive guidance to the Division Director and Chief Executive Officer on a range of critical-path program priorities underway within the Innovation Institute at MassTech.
This role involves the strategic review and development of key executive work products, including background memoranda, key stakeholder communications, and high-impact presentation materials (e.g., PowerPoint decks, web content) essential to the division's success.
The principal duty of the position is supporting MassTech and the Innovation Institute's work regarding the Massachusetts Quantum Initiative. Working in close partnership with the Director of the Massachusetts Quantum Initiative and the Senior Director for Programs within the Innovation Institute, the Temporary Part Time Senior Director of Strategy will participate in regularly scheduled Quantum Strategy Sessions within the Innovation Institute, as well as participate in Quantum Supply Chain Accelerator (QSCA) Project Planning Meetings, and Pioneer Valley Quantum Innovation Hub (PVQIH) Strategy Sessions. Additionally, the individual will serve as representative of the Chief Executive Officer of MassTech on the Governance Committee for Springfield Technical Community College's Massachusetts Quantum Supply Chain Accelerator.
Reporting to the Director of the Innovation Institute, the Temporary Part-time Senior Director of Strategy will collaborate with institute colleagues to inform programs and investments, leveraging deep institutional knowledge and a legacy of accomplishment within the Massachusetts technology and innovation ecosystem. In this capacity, the position will also provide senior guidance for the development of MassTech's TechGeneration (TechGen) internship program and professional advisory support for MassTech's Robotics Initiative. The Temporary Part-time Senior Director of Strategy also remains available to execute strategic tasks, initiatives, and special responsibilities as directly assigned by the Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
Core Responsibilities
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
  1. Provide high-level strategic advice on the focus, direction, and individual work streams of the Innovation Institute.
  2. Advance the development of MassTech's Quantum Initiative, including providing guidance and layout support for the establishment of a Massachusetts Quantum Leadership Group.
  3. Provide strategic oversight and support for the deployment of a Quantum Supply Chain Accelerator (QSCA) at the Springfield Technology Park.
  4. Guide and support the evolution and expansion of MassTech's TechGeneration (TechGen) Program.
  5. Provide executive advisory services to advance MassTech's robotics initiative.
  6. Support the development and implementation of targeted projects and programs aligned with the shifting priorities of the Innovation Institute.
  7. Implement critical strategic tasks, activities, and agency responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.

Key Objectives
  1. Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with the Division Director and chief executive officer lead, shape, and refine Innovation Institute programs that accelerate growth across the Commonwealth's technology and innovation economy.
  2. Ecosystem Alignment: Work collaboratively with the Division Director and key leaders within the Massachusetts quantum community to deliver high-impact results on behalf of the quantum ecosystem.
  3. Program Evolution: Support the successful development and scaling of the TechGeneration Internship program in Massachusetts (Edition 2.0).
  4. Future-Proofing Initiatives: Collaborate with the Division Director and Innovation Institute staff to organize, structure, and launch the next-generation robotics initiative.
  5. Executive Excellence: Assume responsibility and accountability for the quality, accuracy, and professional tone of all strategic communications and supporting documents created by this position.
  6. Attend offsite events often not accessible by public transportation.

Requirements
1. Experience
  • Executive Leadership: Extensive experience leading and managing complex initiatives that require genuine, deep collaboration across industry, academia, and government sectors (highly preferred).
  • Domain & Institutional Expertise: Deep, firsthand institutional knowledge of the programs, practices, history, and objectives of the Innovation Institute and the Massachusetts Quantum Initiative.
  • Project Management: A proven track record of designing, structuring, and steering complex, multi-stakeholder projects to successful completion.
  • Autonomy & Drive: Demonstrated ability to work independently, establish rigorous priorities, manage multiple work streams concurrently, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Proven ability to listen to diverse stakeholder viewpoints, distill complex economic and technological issues, and design/deliver highly creative, collaborative solutions.
  • Shared Governance: Demonstrated success taking personal responsibility for the detailed management and coordination of initiatives where ownership of agendas, commitments, outcomes, and communications is shared across multiple external organizations and institutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver superior execution on high-stakes, complex projects and ecosystem initiatives.
  • Exceptional capacity to coordinate, organize, support, and execute collaborative efforts across diverse, competitive, or fragmented constituencies.
  • Proficiency in leveraging modern software applications, collaborative platforms, and digital tools to enhance communication, drive productivity, and enable broad stakeholder participation.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, oral communication, and presentation skills.

This position requires candidates to be able to work at our Westborough, Massachusetts office at least two days per week. This is not a fully remote position.
The salary range for this position is $60 - $72.12 hourly, depending on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's background, skills, and internal equity.
Attend offsite and inter-office meetings as required, including travel between Boston and Westborough office locations. Some work locations and meeting sites may not be accessible by public transportation.
