The Director of Strategy is a senior strategic leader responsible for driving integrated marketing strategies that deliver measurable business results for Mindgruve's key client accounts. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on execution, leading cross-functional teams to develop comprehensive marketing strategies across paid, owned, and earned channels. The Director serves as both a strategic thought leader and a mentor to the strategy team, while maintaining direct ownership of 2-4 major client accounts.
What You'll Do Here
  • Serve as day-to-day strategic lead on key accounts, owning the overall strategic vision, roadmap, and business outcomes
  • Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that combine brand positioning, messaging, full-funnel tactics, and performance marketing across all channels
  • Lead discovery processes including stakeholder interviews, research, competitive analysis, and audience segmentation to inform strategic planning
  • Create compelling strategic presentations and deliver them to C-suite executives and senior client stakeholders, clearly articulating insights, recommendations, and expected outcomes
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews and strategic planning sessions with key accounts, identifying growth opportunities and optimization recommendations
  • Partner with account leadership on strategic scoping, aligning approach, deliverables, and resourcing to client goals
  • Analyze campaign performance data to measure success against strategic objectives and KPIs, providing data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships, serving as a strategic advisor and ensuring long-term satisfaction and retention
  • Architect, build, and optimize CRM and lifecycle programs end to end: designing customer journeys, segmentation, and triggered automation/nurture flows, translating them into working configurations within the client's martech stack, and continuously improving against engagement, conversion, and retention goals
  • Define and operationalize the customer data strategy, including data modeling, identity resolution, audience definition, and CDP-to-activation pipelines, ensuring unified customer data powers personalization, measurement, and downstream channel activation
  • Develop and document strategy frameworks, templates, best practices, and methodologies that can be scaled across the agency
  • Lead internal training sessions and workshops to share strategic knowledge and elevate cross-functional team capabilities
  • Own the CRM and customer data platform (CDP) strategy specialty and serve as the agency's subject matter expert
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement within the strategy practice, staying ahead of industry trends and emerging marketing channels
  • Lead strategic planning sessions that bring together cross-functional teams to solve complex client challenges
  • Ensure seamless workflow and communication across departments to optimize integrated marketing delivery
  • Collaborate with VP, Strategy on practice group vision, resource planning, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Lead strategic development for new business pitches and RFP responses, crafting compelling strategic narratives and differentiated approaches
  • Present strategic vision and approach during pitch presentations, demonstrating expertise and building prospect confidence
  • Conduct competitive audits, market research, and strategic analysis to inform new business positioning and recommendations
  • Create thought leadership content including articles, case studies, points of view, and webinars that showcase strategic expertise and agency capabilities

We Need a Person With
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Advertising, or a related field required
  • 10-12 years of progressive marketing and strategy experience, with at least 5 years in a senior strategic role
  • Agency experience strongly preferred; experience managing complex, multi-channel marketing programs for diverse clients
  • Proven track record of developing and executing integrated marketing strategies that deliver measurable business results
  • Experience managing client relationships at the executive/C-suite level
  • Demonstrated expertise in brand strategy, positioning, messaging, and customer journey mapping
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing channels including SEO/SEM, paid social, display advertising, email marketing, content marketing, and conversion optimization
  • Strong background in market research, consumer insights, competitive analysis, and data-driven decision making
  • Demonstrated depth in CRM, marketing automation, and customer data platform (CDP) strategy, with hands-on experience building and managing lifecycle programs including segmentation, data modeling, identity resolution, audience activation, and email deliverability.
  • Experience with platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, Adobe, Klaviyo, Segment, and others.
  • Experience with marketing analytics platforms and the ability to translate data into actionable strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and/or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)
  • Experience with collaboration tools including Slack, Asana, or similar project management platforms
  • Working knowledge of web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) and marketing platforms
  • Hands-on proficiency with CRM, marketing automation, and CDP platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, Adobe, Klaviyo, Segment, and others)
  • Experience with video meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet)
