Job description

Sterling Industrial, headquartered in Evansville, Indiana was founded and incorporated in 1982. Our company began and grew from a need for swift, reliable service for utilities in southern Indiana. Meeting the needs of utilities through small emergencies, we found an increasing need to add pipefitters and millwrights to our operation, and from there our company continued to grow. 

As a multi-craft union contractor, we provide civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical services for new construction and maintenance/retrofit projects. Our core markets include power generation, metals, pulp/paper, plastics, and chemical markets. We pride ourselves on being a full-service contractor attentive and responsive to the needs of our customers; providing a full range of services and solutions for construction and maintenance projects.

General Position Summary

The Warehouse Purchasing Coordinator supports warehouse operations through the timely procurement of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies for an industrial contracting company. This role works closely with project teams, vendors, and warehouse personnel to ensure materials are purchased, received, tracked, and available to support project schedules. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced industrial environment.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Purchase materials, tools, equipment, and supplies in accordance with company purchasing procedures. 
•    Obtain quotes, compare pricing, and coordinate with approved vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing. 
•    Create and process purchase orders while maintaining accurate purchasing records. 
•    Coordinate delivery schedules to ensure materials arrive when needed for projects. 
•    Track open purchase orders and follow up with vendors regarding shipping dates, backorders, and discrepancies. 
•    Receive and verify incoming materials against purchase orders and packing slips. 
•    Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and inventory reconciliation. 
•    Work with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to identify material needs and prioritize orders. 
•    Coordinate material transfers between warehouses and project sites as needed. 
•    Assist in maintaining organized warehouse storage areas and proper inventory labeling. 
•    Research new vendors and assist in evaluating supplier performance related to quality, pricing, and delivery. 
•    Resolve invoice, receiving, or vendor discrepancies in coordination with Accounting. 
•    Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and safety procedures. 
•    Perform other warehouse and purchasing duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Work Experience Requirement:

•    High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred. 
•    2+ years of purchasing, inventory control, warehouse, or construction materials experience preferred. 
•    Experience in industrial construction, manufacturing, or distribution environments preferred. 
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. 
•    Experience with ERP, purchasing, or inventory management software preferred. 
•    Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
•    Ability to prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines. 
•    Valid driver's license required. 
•    Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification is a plus.

Work Environment

•    Primarily works in an indoor warehouse and office environment with occasional outdoor work. 
•    Frequent interaction with vendors, delivery drivers, and project personnel. 
•    Fast-paced environment with priorities driven by project schedules and operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
  • The ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.  May have to walk up flights of stairs, uneven surfaces, or climb a ladder.
