Job description

Position Summary

we are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Fabrication Estimator to support the estimating, bidding, and project setup process for custom steel fabrication projects. This position plays a critical role in evaluating customer-provided drawings and specifications, preparing accurate material takeoffs, developing Bills of Material (BOMs), and coordinating with production teams to establish realistic labor hours and fabrication methods.

Projects include tanks, ductwork, stacks, hoppers, and custom plate metal components. The ideal candidate will possess strong fabrication knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and practical shop experience to help ensure successful project execution from estimate through production handoff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer-supplied drawings, specifications, and fabrication requirements.

  • Prepare accurate material takeoffs for:

    • Plate steel

    • Pipe

    • Structural steel

    • Miscellaneous fabrication components

  • Develop detailed Bills of Material (BOMs) for purchasing and production.

  • Collaborate with shop leadership and production teams to establish:

    • Labor hours

    • Fabrication methods

    • Production sequencing

  • Evaluate constructability and identify practical fabrication considerations during the estimating phase.

  • Support project transition and handoff to production after contract award.

  • Assist with updating and modifying fabrication drawings using AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

  • Maintain organized estimating documentation and project records.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to estimating accuracy and production efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Experience in steel fabrication, estimating, drafting support, or a related manufacturing environment.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret:
