Job description

Purchasing Specialist
Job Overview:
The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for purchasing and delivering manufacturing materials to the right place at a minimum cost to support the production and project schedules. This person should have experience considering price, quality, availability, reliability and technical support when choosing suppliers and materials. The procured items range from raw materials, fabricated parts, electrical components and mechanical hardware. Reports directly to Procurement Manager.
Job Functions:
  • Participate in Purchasing/Production Planning meetings
  • Meet with current vendors and help develop new sources for materials
  • Develop purchasing relationship with strategic suppliers to negotiate better lead times and prices based on volume/share
  • Continuously look for direct material cost savings
  • Responsible for tracking all savings negotiated throughout the year
  • Receive appropriate approval from Project Managers and Operations prior to sending purchase orders to vendors
  • Measure suppliers for performance
  • Aid in materials pricing during bidding with Engineers and Manufacturing (quoting)
  • Process all purchase requests and track materials to ensure on-time delivery for current/new customer orders
  • Confirm data for new part numbers in ERP system
  • Initiate conversation with suppliers and update confirmed delivery dates in ERP system

Travel Requirements:
  • Less than 10% travel to visit suppliers as needed.

Required Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, Logistics, Finance, Accounting is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of Procurement experience in project or inventory purchasing
  • Experience with JD Edwards, D365, SAP, or similar software is a huge plus
  • Previous experience with supplier relations, developing strong vendor relations, negotiating skills
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
  • Employees must follow all information security policies, protect confidential data, complete required training, and report any suspected security incidents to support our information security controls.
