Indiana Steel Fabricating is hiring a Purchasing Manager in Indianapolis to oversee steel, material, coating, and fabrication-service procurement. The ideal candidate has strong supplier relationships, steel-industry experience, negotiating skills, and the ability to manage purchasing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Type: Full-time, in person

Position Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for procuring structural steel, raw materials, coatings, fabrication supplies, and outsourced services required to support manufacturing and project operations.

This role ensures the timely availability of materials while maintaining competitive pricing, quality standards, and dependable supplier performance. The Purchasing Manager works closely with Operations, Finance, Sales, Estimators, and Project Managers to support production schedules, inventory planning, quoting, and project requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Procure structural steel, plate, tubing, raw materials, and fabrication supplies required for manufacturing and project operations.
  • Convert purchase requisitions into accurate and timely purchase orders within the ERP system.
  • Source, evaluate, and onboard steel mills, service centers, fabrication vendors, and other suppliers.
  • Solicit and evaluate competitive quotes to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and supplier agreements.
  • Monitor steel market conditions, pricing trends, material availability, and supplier capabilities.
  • Provide current material pricing to Sales and estimating teams to support quoting activities.
  • Procure specialized coatings, outsourced fabrication services, and other external production resources as needed.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, purchase orders, pricing, and supporting documentation within the ERP system.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Sales, Estimators, and Project Managers to support production and project needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to support consistent pricing, quality, and delivery performance.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and total purchasing costs.
  • Complete assignments independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Maintain dependable attendance and present a professional image.
