Job description

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Procurement Assistant in Richmond, Virginia. The Procurement Assistant is responsible for coordinating and supporting purchasing activities to maintain efficient operations. The individual in this role executes a wide range of functions, including vendor onboarding, purchase order processing, RFP coordination, and contract management. Responsibilities rotate regularly to ensure coverage and consistent foundational knowledge of procurement functions among all team members.

Seeking candidates with a minimum two years of purchasing or procurement experience, required; High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree strongly preferred; Experience with contract review, vendor compliance tracking, sourcing strategies, preferred; Experience operating and navigating ERPs, CODA and Microsoft Dynamics (D365), a plus.

Requirements for the Procurement Assistant position include:

  • Strong knowledge of purchasing procedures, vendor management, and sourcing practices.
  • General knowledge of internal purchasing policies and financial controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; experience with CODA and Microsoft Dynamics (D365) a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Work independently with limited supervision and interact professionally at all levels.
