Job description

Kendal at Oberlin is a full-service life plan community, which primarily serves older adults in the Quaker tradition. Residents are assured a lifetime of healthcare including short- and long-term nursing services, memory care and assisted living. Equally important, residents enjoy an independent, enriching living experience.
Kendal at Oberlin's Dining Services is seeking an experienced Executive Sous Chef for a full time position. The Executive Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef in leading the culinary team in creating, preparing and executing a high quality and distinctive food service and product. Additionally, the Sous Chef will demonstrate excellent culinary and leadership skills to fully support and continually improve the Kendal Dining Program. Further responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Monitor all aspects of meal production to assure meals are prepared as planned.
  • Conduct daily safety and sanitation walk-throughs and taking initiative and control of problem situations.
  • Identify needs and quantity required on the daily production sheets.
  • Follow proper food-handling techniques at all times.
  • Monitor and log food temperatures.
  • Complete EcoSure and food safety audits as needed.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ability to work as an integral part of the culinary management team.
  • Must have experience as a Sous or Executive Sous Chef.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be innovative and willing to take initiative.
  • Hours will vary with rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Possess high level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift weights of up to 60 pounds.
  • Stand and/ or walk for 75% of the day.
