Job description

Job Title: Assistant Sous Chef

Job Summary:
The Assistant Sous Chef supports the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, maintaining kitchen standards, and supervising kitchen staff. This role plays a key part in delivering consistent, efficient, and safe culinary service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations and food production
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of line cooks and prep staff
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes and standards
  • Help manage inventory, food ordering, and stock rotation (FIFO)
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations
  • Enforce food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP guidelines)
  • Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Sous Chef
  • Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and cost control
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff
  • Monitor portion control and minimize food waste

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a line cook, chef de partie, or similar role
  • Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards
