Job Title: Assistant Sous Chef
Job Summary:
The Assistant Sous Chef supports the Sous Chef and Executive Chef in managing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food preparation, maintaining kitchen standards, and supervising kitchen staff. This role plays a key part in delivering consistent, efficient, and safe culinary service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations and food production
- Supervise and coordinate activities of line cooks and prep staff
- Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes and standards
- Help manage inventory, food ordering, and stock rotation (FIFO)
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen stations
- Enforce food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards (e.g., HACCP guidelines)
- Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Sous Chef
- Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and cost control
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff
- Monitor portion control and minimize food waste
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a line cook, chef de partie, or similar role
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure
- Leadership and team management skills
- Good communication and organizational abilities
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
