POSITION: ASSOCIATE SALES ENGINEER (NEW EQUIPMENT)

CLASSIFICATION: FULL-TIME / EXEMPT

LOCATION: FRESNO

REPORTS TO: VP SALES / VP ENGINEERING



Summary/Objective:

The Associate Sales Engineer - New Equipment will work closely with the R.F. MacDonald Co. New Equipment Sales teams, inclusive of vendors and customers. The successful candidate must be organized and work proactively within the Sales process and operations of RFM.


This position identifies potential clients, maintains pipeline and order reports, and updates prospect lists. In addition, the role involves assisting the sales team and providing essential support for effective sales operations. The individual will be required to research best practices in customer service and sales support functions. Tracking developing trends, as well as analyzing and interpreting sales metrics against team goals is essential in the position.

Performs other related duties as required and assigned.


Essential Functions:

  • Making equipment selections based on customer needs
  • Developing quotations and project specifications and submittals
  • Working with and developing 2D and/or 3D drawings
  • Reading construction plans and doing takeoffs
  • CRM data entry
  • Proficiency with Cleaver-Brooks Powerup and Configurator, Taco's BuyTaco and Project Builder, and similar systems and quoting procedures for R.F. MacDonald vendors.
  • Respond to customer and prospect inquiries with assistance and oversight of outside sales engineer.
  • Assist the sales team in following up on sales opportunities.
  • Monitor project status and equipment ship dates to ensure excellent customer service and customer experience.
  • Participate in ride-along's, job walks, lunch & learn presentations, and customer meetings/visits with sales team.
  • Following up with clients upon job completion to provide start-up reports, IOM's and close-out packages.
  • Participate in sales and operations meetings, tradeshows, and sales processes. Assist with job/tradeshow setup as needed.
  • Manage sales tracking tools and sales data for the team, as well as analyzing sales trends.
  • Assist in the preparation and organizing of promotional material or events
  • Develop sales opportunities by researching and identifying target accounts with assistance and oversight of outside sales engineer.
  • Helping the sales team develop leads by contacting potential clients via phone or email to generate interest in the company's products or services.
  • Routing qualified opportunities to the appropriate sales executives for further development and closure
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of the company's products or services and competitors' offerings to support sales team with their efforts
  • Providing customer support by answering questions about products or services, pricing, order status, delivery options, return policies, etc.
  • Coordinating with other departments such as accounting or shipping to ensure that customer orders are processed quickly and accurately
  • Working in teams to accomplish a common goal
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong people and customer service skills in a professional setting
  • Strong Microsoft skills and knowledge including Manufacturer sizing programs and AutoCad
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently and perform with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to customer's current and future needs.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to produce detailed but concise quotations pertaining to customer requirements
  • A valid driver's license is required. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require some travel.

Requirements


  • Inside sales support with mechanical piping and/or electrical experience.
  • Some experience in administrative support positions
  • Ability to work and travel in office or field/jobsite setting as needed.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and accounting or sales software systems.
  • Good computer and software systems skills and experience
  • Ability to enter data in multiple system platforms and pull reports (w/ use of queries, datamining, etc.)
  • Ability to perform diversified business functions and working knowledge of administrative and sales procedures.
  • Well organized and responsible; ability to switch between duties efficiently
  • Communicate proficiently in English, with good verbal and communication skills; communicate well with internal staff & management, as well as externally with customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Education and Experience

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.

Two years related experience preferred.

Inside sales experience in industrial or commercial fields preferred.


Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment with some offsite field exposure. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job operates in a professional office environment. Much of the role will take place at a desk on a computer. An ergonomic chair will be provided.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a deskbound role; however, filing, correlating, reproduction and binding materials are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand on a stool, climb stairs, and prepare training and meeting rooms/spaces as necessary.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional travel work as job duties demand.


Travel

Travel may be required for this position to customer and RFM sites with out-of-area and possible overnight travel expected.
