You'll often join sales calls or meetings to provide technical insights, prepare product demonstrations, and help address any technical questions from prospective clients. This role requires strong communication skills, as you'll act as a bridge between customer needs and your company's technical capabilities. Regular collaboration with product managers and support staff is also common, helping to tailor solutions and ensure a smooth pre-sales experience.

What is an associate sales engineer?

Associate Sales Engineers are entry-level professionals who support the sales process by providing technical expertise and product knowledge to clients and sales teams. They assist in understanding customer requirements, preparing presentations or demonstrations, and ensuring that proposed solutions meet client needs. Associate Sales Engineers often work closely with senior sales engineers, product managers, and customers to help close deals and solve technical challenges during the sales cycle.

Associate Sales Engineer, EV Charging Infrastructure

Voltera Power

New York, NY

$120K - $140K/yr

Full-time

Posted 7 days ago

Job description

Our collective future depends on carbon-free transportation. To forge that future, Voltera develops, owns, and operates the infrastructure that enables companies to succeed at scale with zero-emission vehicles. We're looking for innovative, people-first team members who understand that culture is critical in our effort to positively impact the world's transition to a carbon-free transportation future.

We are looking for an Associate Sales Engineer to turn EV charging opportunities into buildable projects. Sitting on the Sales Engineering team, this role helps define site strategy, scope early designs, set initial project budgets, and shape technical solutions in close partnership with Sales, Engineering, Design, and Real Estate. You'll be a key driver in moving projects from concept to execution—translating customer needs, site constraints, budget inputs, and technical requirements into clear, actionable plans.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Work closely with our Sales and Real Estate teams to evaluate potential charging sites against our Customer's key requirements.
  • Develop initial site plans to be used for initial project planning.
  • Work with our in-house estimating team to develop preliminary project budgets and coordinate supporting cost information for approval and project pricing
  • Support early project development activities to determine project feasibility and de-risk development.
  • Assist with internal cost estimates by ensuring all project scope is captured
  • Visit proposed EV charging sites to assess project feasibility and develop proposed installation layouts.
  • Review design drawings to ensure customer requirements are incorporated into project scope.
  • Support the initial design RFP process by preparing technical solutions, and preliminary schedules.
  • Work closely with our external Consulting Teams to complete site Due Diligence.
  • Assist with technical information related to the procurement of equipment.
  • Recommend changes in design, processes, or use of materials or services which would result in cost reduction or improvement in operations.
  • Support the real estate team during site selection, negotiation, and acquisition. Help to vet and narrow sites and recommend sites for pursuit.
  • Document project information and ensure smooth transition to the Design team.
  • Perform additional responsibilities to facilitate transactions with customers as opportunities arise.

MUST-HAVE:

  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Construction Technology or related experience, plus a minimum of 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience providing technical / engineering sales support for site design and equipment selection, ideally within the EV charging industry.
  • Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with aspects of civil and electrical engineering and construction practices.

NICE-TO-HAVE:

  • Experience with customer communication and relationship management
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with zoning/land use negotiations with local authorities
  • Experience with utilities and heavy power projects

LOCATION:

  • New York City or Washington D.C. areas (preferred), Los Angeles or San Francisco.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base compensation ($120,000 to $140,000 annually): Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. Our total compensation package includes the base salary, bonus, incentive equity compensation, and competitive benefits (medical/vision/dental insurance, matching 401(k), Life Insurance, unlimited vacation/PTO, & EV incentive). Candidates must have authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis. Relocation benefits are not available.
