What does an account manager do?

An Account Manager is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met, and acting as the main point of contact between the client and the company. They coordinate with internal teams to deliver products or services that meet client expectations, handle client inquiries or concerns, and work to identify new business opportunities within existing accounts. Account Managers often oversee contract negotiations, manage account budgets, and strive to ensure client satisfaction to encourage repeat business.

What does an account manager do?

The position of account manager is a common role in both the sales and advertising industries. While the day-to-day expectations may vary by industry, the basic expectations are the same. An account manager is a professional who manages the strategy and business relationship with their customers. After an account has been “won” by the company or agency in question, the account manager is responsible for helping the client reach their goals and ensuring a continued, positive, and profitable relationship. Account managers should understand their client’s long- and short-term needs, and leverage their company’s internal resources (strategy, customer service, creative, etc.) to help meet those goals. They serve as the client’s main point of contact, and will often provide recommendations or “upsells” to enhance their customer’s success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Manager, you need strong relationship-building, negotiation, and project management skills, often supported by a degree in business, marketing, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software like Salesforce, data analysis tools, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities help you stand out in managing client needs and expectations. These skills are crucial for maintaining client satisfaction, driving revenue growth, and fostering long-term business partnerships.

What are some common challenges account managers face when balancing client needs with company objectives?

Account Managers often navigate the delicate balance between meeting client expectations and aligning with their own organization's goals. This can involve managing multiple client accounts with differing priorities, ensuring timely communication, and sometimes having to negotiate or set boundaries to avoid overpromising. Effective Account Managers develop strong organizational skills and clear communication strategies to address these challenges while maintaining positive client relationships. Regular collaboration with internal teams is also crucial to deliver solutions that satisfy both clients and company standards.

What is the difference between Account Manager vs Customer Service Representative?

Employer & Industry UsageUsed in sales, marketing, and B2B industriesCommon across retail, telecom, and service industries
Comparison Search IntentUnderstanding roles in client management and salesCustomer support and service roles

While both roles involve interacting with clients, Account Managers focus on maintaining and growing client accounts, often with sales responsibilities. Customer Service Representatives primarily handle customer inquiries and support. The roles differ in scope, with Account Managers having a strategic, relationship-building focus, whereas Customer Service Reps focus on resolving issues and providing assistance.

What is the average salary for an account manager?

The average salary for an account manager typically ranges from $55,000 to $85,000 per year, depending on experience, industry, and location. Many account managers also receive bonuses and commissions based on performance, and strong communication and sales skills are often required.

Job description

Sales Account Manager

Are you looking for a place where you can bring your drive, sales talent, and ambition?

GO Manufacturing (Top Drawer Components) is seeking an energetic, relationship-focused Sales Account Manager based out of our Apache Junction, AZ facility. In this high-impact B2B role, you will drive regional revenue by cultivating existing accounts and actively prospecting new commercial partnerships across cabinetry, woodworking, millwork, and custom retail fixtures.

As the premier manufacturing arm behind ShelfGenie-a proud member of the Neighborly family-we craft top-tier custom dovetail drawers, specialty pull-out shelving, and commercial display components across North America. This is an active, consultative field sales role for a professional who thrives on tangible product sales, understands production craft, and excels at turning technical manufacturing capabilities into winning customer solutions.

Why Join Neighborly & GO Manufacturing?

Neighborly is the world's largest home services company, connecting millions of customers to top-tier brands across repair, maintenance, and enhancement services. Backed by over 40 years of industry leadership, we empower our team members with the tools, autonomy, and support needed to build long-term careers.

If you are ready to own your territory, build lasting B2B relationships, and represent a brand synonymous with quality, apply today to build what's next with us.

Bring your experience and make a difference.

As a Sales Account Manager on the GO Manufacturing team, a typical day for you will include:

  • Prospect, pitch, and onboard a minimum of 3+ new B2B accounts monthly while managing and expanding existing client relationships across an average book of business of ~$160K/month.
  • Field Account Management (~80% Travel): Meet with commercial clients, cabinet shops, contractors, and retail display partners on-site. (A company-issued vehicle is provided for all business travel).
  • Spend your first 6 weeks embedded in our Apache Junction manufacturing facility learning shop floor operations, material specs, assembly, and custom fabrication capabilities.
  • Partner directly with the Plant Manager, engineering, and production teams to review custom client specs, price estimates, and feasibility for custom components.
  • Confidently articulate product quality, lead times, and manufacturing precision to overcome pricing objections against competitors.
  • Represent GO Manufacturing at 2-3 regional and national industry trade shows per year (e.g., Las Vegas, Phoenix) to capture leads and build brand presence.
  • Track sales pipeline, quotes, and customer communication using our integrated ERP/CRM system (Saradex).

Bring your skills and achieve success. (Required qualifications)

  • Experience: 3+ years of successful B2B territory sales or account management experience, preferably in woodworking, custom cabinetry, building materials, millwork, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to sell a physical, manufactured product rather than conceptual services or financing.
  • Ability to read order specs, understand shop-floor constraints, and learn technical wood/drawer component details.
  • Demonstrated balance of cold prospecting/door-opening alongside long-term client retention.
  • Experience working with CRM and ERP software; comfortable conducting business in the field using a company-issued tablet/laptop.
  • Must be able to pass a standard pre-employment background check.
  • Ability to commute to the Apache Junction plant for vehicle dispatch, inventory checks, and team meetings.
  • Skills:Exceptional organizational skills, thorough accuracy, effective written and verbal communication skills, deadline-driven, strong problem-solving skills, ability to work well with numbers and data
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent hands-on industry sales experience.
  • Requirements: Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR check required to operate company vehicle).

Bring your work ethic and gain stability.

  • Competitive Pay: $ 64,000 - $69,000 base salary plus monthly commission tied to revenue, drawer volume, and new account acquisition (no cap).
  • Work Schedule & Territory Details:
  • Hours: Monday - Friday, typically 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (45-50 hours/week; flexibility required based on client and production schedules).
  • Travel Scope: Predominantly day travel throughout the greater Phoenix metro and surrounding Arizona regions (occasional overnight travel, e.g., Flagstaff or out-of-state trade shows).
  • Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision package, 401k with match, paid holidays, PTO
  • Financial Benefits: Annual bonus based on company performance, Associate Equity Program, Referral Bonus Work Schedule & Territory Details
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance options, retirement plan, paid time off, and employee development opportunities within a growing manufacturing brand network.

Neighborly is fully committed to Equal Employment Opportunity and to attracting, retaining, developing and promoting the most qualified employees without regard to their race, gender, color, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, citizenship status, veteran status, or any other characteristic prohibited by federal or state law. We are dedicated to providing a work environment free from discrimination and harassment, and where employees are treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to be their authentic self.
