What is software sales?

Software sales refers to the business of selling software products or services to customers, which can include individuals, businesses, or organizations. Professionals in software sales identify potential clients, demonstrate software solutions, negotiate contracts, and provide ongoing support to ensure customer satisfaction. Their role often involves understanding client needs, explaining product features, and helping clients see the value of the software in improving their operations. Success in this field requires strong communication skills, technical understanding, and the ability to build lasting customer relationships.

What are different types of software sales jobs?

Software sales jobs range from entry-level to senior management. In an entry-level role such as a sales development representative, your duties are to qualify sales leads, set up meetings with prospects for account executives, and prepare presentations and reports about new technology. As an account executive, your responsibilities are to convert leads, make sales, and plan your efforts around market forecasts. As an account manager, your job is to nurture relationships with clients to ensure loyalty to your product or service. Finally, as a solutions consultant, you provide training and assistance with software solutions for your clients and their employees.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in software sales, and how can they be addressed?

One of the most common challenges in software sales is keeping up with rapidly evolving products and industry trends, which requires continuous learning and adaptability. Sales professionals also frequently encounter long sales cycles and complex decision-making processes, especially when dealing with enterprise clients. Building strong relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders is crucial for effectively demonstrating value and closing deals. To address these challenges, successful software salespeople proactively seek ongoing product training, collaborate closely with product and technical teams, and develop strategic account management skills.

Software Sales Representative
About ApexOS360
ApexOS360 is building an enterprise-grade operating platform for construction companies — project management, financials, field operations, document control, and real-time reporting in one system. Born out of 27+ years of real-world construction experience across Texas and Colorado, we're solving problems we've lived firsthand. We've run the jobs, managed the budgets, and dealt with the disconnected tools. Now we're building the fix.
The Role
We're hiring a Software Sales Representative to drive revenue and build our customer base from the ground up. You'll sell a construction operating platform directly to general contractors, subcontractors, property managers, and construction company owners. This role requires a hunter who can prospect, demo, close, and build relationships — not someone waiting on inbound leads. You'll work directly with leadership to develop the sales process, refine messaging, and establish ApexOS360 in the market.
What You'll Do
- Identify, prospect, and close new business with construction companies across Texas, Colorado, and beyond
- Conduct product demos that translate platform capabilities into real business value for construction professionals
- Build and manage a sales pipeline from cold outreach through contract execution
- Develop relationships with GCs, subcontractors, PMs, and construction company owners
- Gather market feedback to help shape product development and positioning
- Collaborate with leadership on pricing, sales collateral, and go-to-market strategy
- Attend industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to generate leads
- Track all activity, pipeline, and forecasting through CRM
- Meet and exceed monthly and quarterly revenue targets
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of B2B software sales experience, preferably in SaaS, construction tech, or selling to the construction/real estate industry
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding quota in a hunter-style sales role
- Experience selling to small and mid-size business owners who are hands-on decision-makers
- Ability to conduct compelling product demos and articulate technical value to non-technical buyers
- Understanding of construction workflows and contractor pain points — or the drive to learn fast
- Self-starter who can build a sales process where one doesn't fully exist yet
- Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and presentation
- Comfortable with CRM tools and disciplined about pipeline management
- Willingness to travel within Texas and Colorado as needed
Nice to Have
- Direct experience in the construction industry (GC, sub, supplier, or related)
- Experience selling project management, ERP, or financial software platforms
- Existing relationships with construction company owners or decision-makers in TX or CO
- Early-stage or startup experience where you helped build the sales motion from scratch
- Familiarity with Procore, Buildertrend, CoConstruct, or similar platforms
What We Offer
- Ground-floor sales role with direct impact on company growth
- Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission
- Direct access to leadership — no layers between you and decision-makers
- Sell a product built by construction professionals who understand the buyer's world
- Potential equity or profit-sharing as the company scales
- Results-driven environment that rewards performance
