Job description

Job Summary:

The VP, Learning provides strategic leadership over WealthCounsel's Learning programs, ensuring the development and delivery of high quality, relevant substantive education to members and prospective members and supporting members in building and growing successful law practices. Drawing on deep expertise in estate planning and law practice development, the VP, Learning ensures the quality, relevance, and strategic growth of WealthCounsel's educational and practice development offerings. This position reports to the Chief Content Officer (CCO).

As a VP, Learning, your responsibilities include:

  • Provides strategic leadership to the Learning team, including supervising and supporting team members, performance planning and evaluation, determining staffing needs, resolving interdepartmental conflicts, developing annual budgets, and determining training needs.
  • In collaboration with the CCO, establishes the strategic direction of WealthCounsel's Learning programs; executes this strategy in continuous collaboration with company leadership and the Operations, Growth, Content, and Finance teams.
  • Oversees all programs related to WealthCounsel members' practice development with a focus on WealthCounsel growth and retention strategies to increase revenue.
  • In coordination with the Growth and Membership Experience teams, contributes to WealthCounsel growth and retention initiatives by implementing innovative learning initiatives.
  • Engages with members and prospects to assist in determining practice development and substantive legal education needs and priorities. 
  • Works closely with the Learning team and the Director of Learning Operations to build and deliver a comprehensive annual education plan and education calendar to ensure WealthCounsel consistently delivers relevant substantive and practice development education to members and prospects.
  • Coordinates all programming related to education events, including but not limited to Symposium, the Advanced Estate Planning Summit, and the Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP) National Conference.
  • Responsible for the vision and direction of the Quarterly magazine.
  • Oversees the Learning team's review of all substantive and practice building content submitted by contractors, speakers, instructors, and all other contributors, including marketing pieces from the Marketing and Legal Marketing team.
  • Creates product concept proposals and business cases to support the development of new educational offerings, including applying best practices in lifelong learning, monetization of offerings, and innovative delivery of education through new and different media, program length and program focus.
  • Actively engages in collecting competitive intelligence to ensure WealthCounsel's educational programming remains cutting edge and the best value in the market.
  • Actively engages with the Legal Content Team to develop and execute overarching strategy and plan to connect WealthCounsel's software offerings with education.
  • Teaches and writes on substantive topics, current developments, and practice building.
  • Ensures compliance with industry best practices and company processes and procedures.

GENERAL LEADERSHIP

  • Establishes and communicates strategic direction across all areas of responsibility; executes strategy in collaboration with the CCO and company leadership.
  • Communicates department, program, and project performance and process to the CCO through periodic status reports and presentations.
  • To ensure educational offerings are supporting WealthCounsel growth and retention goals, develops, implements, and tracks key performance metrics, milestones, specifications, documentation and reporting requirements, and budgets.
  • Tracks and analyzes program, project, and process costs across all areas of responsibility.
  • Promotes collaboration across departments.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and technologies in legal education and law practice management.
  • Performs other duties as required.

EXECUTIVE SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Interviews, hires, and trains members of the Learning team.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance feedback and evaluations to ensure top-level performance at all levels of the department.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Here's what you'll need to be successful in this role:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; experience as a WealthCounsel member preferred.
  • At least 10 years of industry-related experience, including a minimum of three years in an upper management role.
  • 5-10 years experience practicing estate planning.
  • Experience teaching programs related to WealthCounsel's core products or law firm practice building strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate professional education events in-person and virtually.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to improve business processes and practices to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Ability to identify and implement best practices and continual performance measurement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability  to lead a team of non-centralized employees to meet deadlines and consistently deliver high-quality strategic plans and content.
  • Willingness to regularly teach, present, and write required.
  • Travel required, including to conferences and WealthCounsel member meetings.

This is a virtual, full-time position. You will work remotely from your home office, and occasional travel may be required for meetings, trade shows and training.

Salary:

The salary range listed reflects the total on target earnings for this position (base salary plus bonus).
