We are currently seeking a Specifications Writer to join one of our 12offices. The Specifications Writer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining the written technical requirements that complement the drawings and define materials, products, systems, and quality standards for construction. This role works closely with project teams to align specifications with design intent, code requirements, project delivery methods, and owner expectations, helping ensure clarity, consistency, and quality throughout the documentation process.
A Day in the Life:
  • Develop, edit, and coordinate project specifications for a wide range of project types, scales, and delivery methods
  • Collaborate closely with project architects, designers, and technical staff to align specifications with design intent, drawing content, code requirements, and owner expectations
  • Advise teams on material selections, product applications, and building systems to support constructability, quality, and project goals
  • Tailor specifications to project scope, procurement approach, and delivery method while maintaining consistency across contract documents
  • Maintain and improve in-house master specifications, product information, and technical standards to support firmwide quality and efficiency
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to deliver accurate, coordinated, and high-quality specification documentation on schedule
  • Work directly with the Specifications Leader and Team to continuously improve processes in the department as a firmwide resource.

Your Strengths as a Specifications Writer:
  • Knowledge of the CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) Masterformat standard for specification documents organization
  • Proficiency with specification-writing platforms, with the ability to efficiently develop, edit, and manage project specifications. Experience with RIB SpecLink is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SpecsIntact is desired.
  • Strong understanding of building materials, products, assemblies, and construction documentation practices
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound technical judgment, and respond effectively to project challenges and deadlines
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail

What You Bring to the Table:
  • Bachelor's degree or associate degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, interior design, or a related design or construction field is preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience preparing, coordinating, and managing architectural specifications for construction documents
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building products, material assemblies, and construction documentation standards
  • Professional experience in an architectural, engineering, or construction environment is strongly preferred
  • Certification in CSI's CDT (Construction Documents Technologist) is ideally preferred.
