What is a junior recruiter?

A junior recruiter works in the Human Resources department of a company to assist with the hiring process. As a junior recruiter, you play a significant role in finding the right candidates for job openings. Other duties include posting job openings, screening resumes, contacting candidates, scheduling interviews, and coordinating background and drug tests. Typically reporting to a senior recruiter, you work with both candidates and hiring managers frequently, so you need to have strong interpersonal and organizational skills. You also complete on-the-job training to learn about the company’s specific Human Resources policies. It’s not uncommon for junior recruiters to build relationships with local hiring managers and look for potential candidates through their own research.

What does a junior recruiter do?

A Junior Recruiter assists with the hiring process by sourcing and screening candidates, scheduling interviews, and supporting senior recruiters in various administrative tasks. They often help draft job postings, review resumes, and communicate with applicants. Their role is essential in ensuring a smooth and efficient recruitment process for the organization. Junior Recruiters also learn about company culture and hiring needs to better identify suitable candidates, making this position a great starting point for a career in human resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Recruiter, you need a basic understanding of recruitment processes, strong organizational skills, and at least a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), resume databases, and recruiting platforms like LinkedIn is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate clearly help you build strong relationships with candidates and hiring managers. These skills are crucial for efficiently sourcing and placing top talent, ensuring a positive candidate experience, and supporting overall business growth.

What are some common challenges faced by junior recruiters in their first year, and how can they overcome them?

Junior recruiters often face challenges such as balancing a high volume of open positions, quickly learning to screen candidates effectively, and adapting to fast-changing client or hiring manager needs. They may also find it difficult to build strong relationships with both candidates and internal teams. To overcome these challenges, new recruiters should focus on developing strong organizational skills, seek feedback from senior team members, and actively participate in training sessions. Building open communication channels with hiring managers and leveraging mentorship within the recruitment team can also accelerate their learning curve and success.

Job description

RecruiterAbout The Opportunity

Join a fast-growing, PE-backed professional services firm as the recruiter who helps raise the bar on how the company finds, screens, and wins great talent. This is a high-impact corporate recruiting role for someone who does not want to simply review inbound applicants. The right person will build pipelines, run polished candidate screens, partner with hiring managers, and help a growing company make better hiring decisions across multiple professional roles.

This is a strong fit for a recruiter who is energized by hard-to-fill searches, candidate outreach, clear storytelling, and the details that separate a good screen from a weak one. You will work on a range of white-collar professional roles, keep hiring managers updated, and help candidates understand why the opportunity is compelling.

What You Will Do
  • Source candidates proactively through LinkedIn, Indeed, referrals, and other recruiting channels.
  • Manage multiple open searches at once, typically across professional services, accounting, HR, business operations, and related white-collar roles.
  • Review inbound applicants and identify which candidates are worth advancing.
  • Conduct engaging phone or video screens that both evaluate candidates and sell the opportunity clearly.
  • Write clear candidate summaries and present well-calibrated recommendations to hiring managers.
  • Partner with hiring managers on role requirements, knockout criteria, candidate feedback, and pipeline updates.
  • Coordinate next steps, interview scheduling, follow-up, and offer-stage handoffs.
  • Keep candidate records, notes, and pipeline tracking current and accurate.
  • Use available recruiting tools, call recording/summary tools, and AI-assisted workflows thoughtfully to improve speed and quality.
  • Build repeatable sourcing strategies instead of waiting for the ATS to solve the search.
What We Are Looking For
  • Recruiting, talent acquisition, or comparable search experience.
  • Experience proactively sourcing candidates rather than relying only on inbound applicants.
  • Comfort managing several active roles and candidate pipelines at the same time.
  • Strong phone presence, candidate-facing communication, and ability to make a company story sound clear and compelling.
  • Good screening judgment, including the ability to understand role requirements and separate true must-haves from preferences.
  • Strong attention to detail in candidate notes, follow-up, summaries, and hiring-manager updates.
  • Ability to partner with busy hiring managers who need practical updates and well-screened candidates.
  • Willingness to do the sourcing, follow-up, and documentation work needed to keep searches moving.
Nice To Have
  • Experience recruiting for professional services, management consulting, accounting, finance, HR, operations, business operations, technical operations, or other niche white-collar roles.
  • Experience in a corporate recruiting role, an agency/search role, or a hybrid environment where quality and speed both mattered.
  • Experience using LinkedIn Recruiter, Indeed, ATS tools, sourcing projects, candidate campaigns, or structured scorecards.
  • Experience recruiting for roles where technical detail, client-facing polish, or specialized business context matters.
  • Comfort using AI tools, call summaries, structured notes, or workflow automation to improve recruiting quality.
Location

This is a remote U.S. role. The posting is anchored in Indianapolis, Indiana, and the company is especially interested in candidates who can work effectively on Central or Eastern business hours. The role is not currently open to California-based candidates.

Compensation

The expected compensation range is $70,000 to $110,000 base salary, plus discretionary bonus discussion based on performance and fit.

Interview Process

Qualified candidates will complete a video interview with Urrly. Strong candidates may then be introduced to the hiring team for additional conversations.
