What is an engineering recruiter?

Engineering Recruiters are professionals who specialize in finding, screening, and hiring qualified candidates for engineering positions within organizations. They work closely with hiring managers to understand technical requirements and identify candidates with the right skills and experience. Their role often involves sourcing talent, conducting interviews, and managing the recruitment process to ensure the best engineering talent is brought into the company. Engineering Recruiters may work in-house for a company or for recruitment agencies that serve multiple clients.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an engineering recruiter?

To thrive as an Engineering Recruiter, you need a strong understanding of engineering roles, technical terminology, and recruitment best practices, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and recruitment certifications such as AIRS or SHRM is highly valuable. Excellent interpersonal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills help build rapport with both candidates and hiring managers. These competencies are vital for efficiently identifying and securing top engineering talent in a competitive market.

Experience leading or managing people, preferably engineers or technical teams. Six Sigma Green Belt required. Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

Ability to identify improvement opportunities, develop projects, and drive them through implementation. Comfortable working directly on the manufacturing floor. Experience working effectively in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams. Willingness and ability to travel internationally approximately 2-3 times per year. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another closely related discipline.

Understanding of process capability and statistical analysis. Experience with PFMEA and/or DMAIC. Proven experience driving manufacturing cost reductions.

Experience working in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments. Global manufacturing experience. Experience developing or establishing continuous improvement programs.

Benefits Overview: Competitive base salary of approximately $120,000-$150,000. Great bonus plan. Global travel opportunities approximately 2-3 times per year.

Opportunity to lead a global team of approximately 11 engineers. High visibility across a global manufacturing organization. Opportunity to help establish and shape a newer operations-focused continuous improvement program.
