Job description

The foundational purpose of all educational programs at Lee University is to develop within the students' knowledge, appreciation, understanding, ability, and skills, which will prepare them for responsible Christian living in a complex world.
FUNCTION OF POSITION:
The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time, 10½ month live-in position and is responsible for the comprehensive management of the Residential Life and Housing program in a residence hall(s) of approximately 100-300 residents.
The start date for anticipated openings: July 1, 2026
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree is preferred. Resident Directors without a graduate degree are strongly encouraged to pursue one once hired using the tuition concession that is part of the compensation package. Resident Directors with a Master's degree can give the tuition concession to a dependent.
  2. Supervisory, training, and crisis management experience are preferred.
  3. Must be willing to live in a residence hall with a mentality of serving students.
  4. A strong profession of Christian faith and a commitment to not teaching contrary doctrine to the sponsoring denomination (Church of God).
  5. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  6. Successfully complete a federal background check and meet necessary standards for employment.
  7. Commitment to remain drug and alcohol-free during the time of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS:
Leadership and Mentoring
  1. Provide training for residence hall staff.
  2. Prepare for and lead weekly team meetings.
  3. Supervise and evaluate the residence hall staff.
  4. Have bi-weekly one-on-one supervision/mentorship time with each member of team.
  5. Assist with recruiting and hiring.

Student Learning and Interpersonal Interaction
  1. Plan engaging residence hall programs aimed at student learning.
  2. Identify students with leadership ability and provide opportunities for them to develop.
  3. Be a visible and available presence to the students in the residence hall.
  4. Promote consistent accountability through the student conduct process.
  5. Offer support to students requiring collaborative care.
  6. Commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations.
  7. Invest in the faith development of students.

Administrative
  1. Create a schedule that provides adequate supervision of the residence hall.
  2. Supervise and assist with the opening and closing of the residence hall each semester.
  3. Oversight of roommate/suitemate assignments and room changes within residence hall.
  4. Manage the budget and finances for the residence hall.
  5. Communicate and follow up with custodial and maintenance needs to Physical Plant.
  6. Maintain safety and emergency protocol, including drill conduction and staff training.
  7. Resident Directors will be asked to work one holiday rotation each year.

Departmental Initiatives and Activities
  1. Attend and engage in departmental meetings.
  2. Plan and facilitate campus-wide programming.
  3. Carry out special projects as assigned.
  4. Foster and contribute to a positive work environment and culture.

Leadership and Professional Development
  1. Resident Directors will be placed on various committees to lead, organize, and execute the programs of Residential Life and Housing.
  2. Resident Directors may be given the opportunity to attend a student development conference in the years when funds are available.
  3. Resident Directors will enroll in one Higher Education course as part of training (first fall semester) if they have not previously completed a graduate degree in Higher Education.
  4. Resident Directors are expected to regularly attend and support Lee University chapel.

SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION
Resident Directors report directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Life, the Assistant Director of Residential On-Call & Care and the Assistant Director of Housing, as well as the Executive Director of Student Life.
