The Residence Director is vital for engaging with students that live in residence halls at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Residence Directors are empowered to connect with their residential community to help students become engaged members of the community and to thrive as students at UNL with the goal of achieving graduation. An individual in this position will serve on a dynamic team of professionals that work together at a Big 10 institution to implement the Nebraska Residential Experience curriculum framework.
As a Residence Director you will:
  • Focus on student success, engagement, and leadership.
  • Oversee daily operations of a residence hall.
  • Lead a team of student leaders.
  • Gain valuable experience in a multitude of areas including community engagement, supervision, crisis response, leadership development, and summer conferences.
  • Participate in departmental committees, collaborate across campus and build partnerships and contribute to the campus mission.

Strong communication, collaboration, creativity, and adaptability are essential qualities for a Residence Director. This role encourages providing feedback on department and campus initiatives, expanding knowledge on best practices to support college students, and offers professional development opportunities. Residence Directors collaborate within a large department, making collective decisions, and ensuring an optimal residential experience for University of Nebraska-Lincoln students. In the summer, the role extends to community engagement through conference services. This multifaceted position emphasizes personal and professional growth within a supportive and collaborative environment.
This position is considered essential, and schedules include office hours, some evenings, weekends, and being available in an on-call rotation.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of leadership experience in a student housing employment position.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of college students.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
