Job description

Position Summary


The Residential Director (RD) is responsible for the daily operations of the residence, ensuring a safe, supportive, and structured environment for residents and staff. The RD will create a professional atmosphere characterized by respect, consistency, and concern, enabling residents to heal from past traumas, address present challenges, and prepare for a more stable future. The RD will also provide mentorship and supervision to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). The RD is a Mandated Reporter in accordance with NYS Social Services Law. Additionally, the Residential Director is trained as a Mandated Reporter for suspected child abuse and maltreatment, as required by NYS Social Services Law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

ยท Manages the overall functioning of the residence, including maintaining order, cleanliness, and the safety of the environment.

ยท Oversees inventory management, ensuring the timely procurement of food, household supplies, and other necessities.

ยท Develops and maintains staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.

ยท Oversees maintenance requests and ensures timely resolution of any facility-related issues.

ยท Conducts regular house meetings with residents to discuss house rules, address concerns, and foster a sense of community.

ยท Mediates conflicts and provides crisis intervention as needed.

ยท Encourages residentsโ€™ independence by promoting participation in job searches, housing searches, and other self-sufficiency activities.

ยท Facilitates community-building activities and events, such as birthdays and other celebrations.

ยท Provides supervision, support, and training to Direct Support Professionals.

ยท Ensures that staff are up-to-date with the necessary training, including service training and DSP-specific requirements.

ยท Promotes a team-oriented atmosphere, encouraging staff to take initiative and participate actively in house management.

ยท Addresses performance issues, including conducting disciplinary actions when necessary.

ยท Conducts initial intakes when case manager is not available.

ยท Prepares and submits required reports, including monthly statistical reports, billing with DSS systems, and payroll for staff.

ยท Maintains accurate records; the binder of incident reports, meal menus, CACFP counts, activities offered to guests, and staff training certificates.

ยท Coordinates the purchase of household items and manages the residenceโ€™s budget in collaboration with financial staff.

ยท Participates in regular meetings with BH Administration and other stakeholders to discuss program updates and resident progress.

ยท Network and develop positive working relationships with community agencies and resources.

ยท Advocates on behalf of residents when necessary, ensuring they receive appropriate services and support.

ยท Represents Bethany House at external meetings, conferences, and events as needed.

ยท Maintains the rights, privacy, and dignity of all residents.

ยท Performs other duties as assigned.
