Job Description: Development Manager
Reports to: Senior Director of Major Gifts
Direct Reports: 1 (Development Coordinator)
Location: Gainesville, GA (Hybrid)
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director of Major Gifts as our lead storyteller, the Development Manager is the strategist ensuring those stories are backed by data, fueled by grants, and supported by the community.
At HSNEGA, we believe that "behind the scenes" doesn't mean "behind the mission." We are looking for a sharp, organized, and mission-driven professional to serve as our CRM Administrator, lead our grant-writing efforts, and champion our community-level fundraising. This is a role for someone who loves the satisfaction of a clean database as much as the joy of a successful community event. The Development Manager serves as the key support for the Senior Director of Major Gifts by managing key revenue sources (grants, direct mail, mid-level donors). They are a member of the Philanthropy and Marketing team and have one direct report.
Why Join the HSNEGA Team
- A Culture of Care: Work under a leadership team that values your humanity and professional development as much as your output.
- Operational Impact: You won't just be entering data; you'll be building the systems that allow us to save more lives.
- A Diverse Portfolio: No two days are the same-one day you're drafting a $50k grant, the next you're at a local business securing a sponsorship or mentoring your direct report.
Key Responsibilities
CRM Administrator (The "Data Architect")
- Serve as the primary admin for our CRM (Bloomerang), ensuring data integrity and security.
- Build and maintain donor dashboards, pull weekly/monthly revenue reports, and provide the Senior Director with actionable "ready-to-ask" lists.
- Manage/oversee the gift acknowledgment process, ensuring every donor feels appreciated within 48 hours.
- Train other staff members on CRM best practices to ensure a "culture of data."
Grant Writing & Management
- Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals to local, regional, and national foundations.
- Submit Grant reports in a timely fashion.
- Maintain a strict grants calendar to ensure all deadlines for applications and impact reports are met.
- Work closely with the Shelter and Clinic teams to gather the data and stories needed for high-quality submissions.
Community Engagement & Mid-Level Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio of "community partners" and local business sponsors, securing event sponsorships and annual partnerships.
- Represent HSNEGA at community events, chamber meetings, and tabling opportunities to grow our local presence.
- Oversee digital fundraising campaigns in collaboration with organization's direct mail vendor.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and goal-setting for one direct report.
- Ensure your team member is supported in their daily tasks (gift entry, event logistics, etc.) while helping them grow professionally.
Who You Are
- The Systems Thinker: You see a messy database and feel a deep urge to organize it.
- The Persuasive Writer: You know how to take a spreadsheet of statistics and turn it into a heart-wrenching, "must-fund" grant proposal.
- The Supportive Coach: You enjoy helping others succeed and are ready to step into a management role that prioritizes people-first leadership.
- The Community Advocate: You genuinely enjoy meeting local business owners and find it easy to explain why HSNEGA is a vital community asset.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in nonprofit development, operations, or data management.
- Proven CRM Mastery: You have "Sr Admin" level experience (Bloomerang, GiveSmart, Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, etc.).
- Grant Success: A track record of writing and securing grants (experience with animal welfare grants is a major plus).
- Leadership Potential: Previous experience managing a person, an intern, or a significant project team.
- Attention to Detail: You're the person who catches the typo in the 10th paragraph and notices when a donor's name is misspelled.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Base Salary: $50,000-$55,000 annually; Commensurate with senior-level experience and leadership capability.
- Comprehensive Benefits: Including health, dental, and retirement options, alongside a culture that respects work-life harmony.
