Job description

The Employee Relations Specialist administers employee relations and human resources practices consistent with local, state, and federal laws while maintaining and developing positive working relationships between people. This role is hourly, full-time, in-office in Norfolk, VA. Previous professional experience in HR or Employee Relations is required to be considered for this role; bilingual applicants in English and Spanish are preferred.

Essential Function

• Provides guidance on HR policies and procedures
• Facilitates training
• Provides counseling to employees and leaders
• Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures
• Ensures education of leaders on compliance and labor laws
• Reviews and advises leaders on Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs), Performance Management
Reviews and Performance Coaching
• Reviews and ensures sound reasoning and appropriate administration of employee terminations
• Acts as a credible, trusted advisor to leadership
• Performs investigations and creates associated reports
• Partners with stakeholders to develop and execute programs and initiatives
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports.

Competencies:

• Excellent ability with soft skills such as professionalism and teamwork

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods. The incumbent must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position is located in an office environment and may allow for hybrid remote work.

Travel

May travel up to 10%.
