What is a remote technical recruiter?

A Remote Technical Recruiter is a professional who specializes in sourcing, screening, and hiring candidates for technical roles, such as software engineers or IT specialists, while working remotely. They use various online tools and platforms to connect with potential candidates, conduct interviews, and collaborate with hiring managers. Remote Technical Recruiters are skilled in understanding technical job requirements and assessing candidates' technical abilities, often working for tech companies, staffing agencies, or as independent consultants. Their work helps organizations find and attract top technical talent regardless of geographic location.

Both roles are common in tech industries but serve different functions within organizations.

What does a remote technical recruiter do?

As a remote technical recruiter, your job is to work from home to source, screen, and recruit candidates, typically focusing on hiring for jobs in engineering, product design, and analytics fields. You often work for hiring firms that specialize in finding candidates with the right history for complex projects. For example, providing on-site engineering services to an offshore oil rig isn't the same as welding metal in the middle of a factory, so you must work to understand the actual needs of a position and evaluate candidates accordingly. In this role, you may help cultivate relationships with customers, work with recruiting coordinators to track applicants, explain the recruiting process to customers, and use analytics software to evaluate the performance of the company's current recruitment techniques.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote technical recruiter?

To thrive as a Remote Technical Recruiter, you need a solid understanding of technical roles, recruiting best practices, and previous experience in talent acquisition or HR. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and recruitment certifications such as AIRS or SHRM-CP are often valuable. Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and self-motivation are essential soft skills that distinguish top recruiters in a remote setting. These skills and qualifications are crucial for efficiently sourcing, evaluating, and engaging top technical talent while collaborating effectively with hiring teams from a distance.

How do remote technical recruiters typically collaborate with hiring managers and technical teams while working from different locations?

Remote Technical Recruiters rely heavily on digital communication tools such as video calls, chat platforms, and collaborative hiring software to stay aligned with hiring managers and technical teams. Regular check-ins and clear documentation are essential to understand technical requirements and provide timely updates on candidate progress. Building strong relationships virtually can be a challenge, but proactive communication and transparency help ensure smooth coordination throughout the recruitment process. This collaborative approach allows recruiters to effectively identify and engage top technical talent, even when working from different locations.

Job description

Senior Technical Recruiter
Department: Recruiting and Operations
Team: Recruitment
Location: Remote — Latin America (LATAM preferred) / US-friendly hours
Commitment: Full-Time
Workplace type: Remote
> This is the junior counterpart to Hop's Principal Technical Recruiter role. Same mission, same Moon Engine exposure — just calibrated for recruiters with 2–5 years of technical recruiting experience who want to grow into a Principal seat over the next 18–24 months.
The Mission
You'll start by doing what you do best: running full-cycle searches on technical roles and building strong candidate and client relationships.

But this isn't a traditional recruiting role. While you deliver hiring outcomes, you'll also learn how to integrate AI into every part of the recruiting workflow — and eventually help clients do the same as our platform launches.

Hop works with Fortune 500 companies and top VC-backed startups, specializing in GenAI, ML, Data Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Product talent.

We're pre-launch on Moon Engine, an agent-orchestrated recruiting ops system where autonomous agents act as decision partners, coordinating hiring with governance and auditability.

At Hop, you'll grow into a player-coach: a hands-on recruiter today, an AI-enabled recruiting advisor tomorrow. You'll work alongside senior recruiters and our engineering and product teams to test Moon Engine, give critical feedback, and master the future of recruiting.

Think of it as dual-track growth: deepen your recruiting craft while becoming an expert in AI-orchestrated hiring workflows — with a clear path to a Principal seat as you mature.
What Makes This Different
You're not choosing between recruiting or AI. You're learning both.

• Hands-on recruiting excellence: You'll own searches for mid-to-senior technical talent — sourcing, engaging, interviewing, and closing. Real, high-stakes work with senior recruiter mentorship.
• Learn AI integration deeply: As you recruit, you'll progressively adopt Moon Engine's capabilities — from AI-assisted sourcing to automated screening. You'll become fluent in how AI amplifies (not replaces) recruiter judgment.
• Product development partner: Sit close to our engineering and product teams. Your real-world recruiting experiences become product requirements. Your feedback shapes what gets built.
• Customer enablement track: As Moon Engine launches, you'll help onboard enterprise clients — teaching them what you've learned and growing into a trusted advisor role.
What You'll Actually Do
Phase 1: Recruiting Execution (Day 1 onwards)
• Run full-cycle searches for mid-to-senior technical roles: Software Engineers, Data Engineers, ML/Data Science contributors, Technical PMs
• Partner with senior recruiters and hiring managers on intake, calibration, and offer strategy
• Source, engage, interview, and close technical talent with white-glove candidate care
• Build and grow client relationships under the guidance of a Principal recruiter
• Hit weekly sourcing, pipeline, and submit-to-hire targets

Phase 2: AI Integration & Learning (Progressive ramp)
• Use Moon Engine daily on your real searches — flag what works, what's confusing, what's missing
• Adopt AI-assisted sourcing, scoring, screening, and matching as features ship
• Join feedback sessions with engineering and product; turn your day-to-day frictions into roadmap input
• Document patterns and best practices as you discover them

Phase 3: Client Enablement (As Moon Engine launches and you mature into the role)
• Co-onboard enterprise clients alongside senior recruiters
• Help train client recruiting teams on AI-enabled workflows
• Step into more autonomous client relationships as you build trust and depth
• Path to Principal Technical Recruiter within ~18–24 months for strong performers
Who Thrives Here
Must-Haves
• 2–5 years of full-cycle technical recruiting experience (in-house, agency, or RPO) with closes on engineering, data, or product roles
• Solid recruiting fundamentals: sourcing, intake, screening, scheduling, offer support, stakeholder communication — you've done all of it, even if not yet at the most senior level
• Strong candidate communication: you can write compelling outreach, run a clean phone screen, and build rapport with passive candidates
• Coachable + ambitious: you actively seek feedback, iterate fast, and want to grow into Principal
• Genuinely curious about AI: you don't need a technical background, but you're excited to learn how AI can augment recruiting
• Growth mindset: comfortable learning new tools, sitting with ambiguity, and stretching beyond what you've done before
• Fluent English (written + verbal); LATAM-based candidates strongly preferred for US time-zone overlap

Bonus Points
• Prior experience recruiting for ML/AI, Data Science, or platform/infra engineering roles
• Hands-on use of AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, AI sourcing platforms) in your current workflow
• Background at high-growth tech companies, well-known recruiting agencies, or in-house technical recruiting teams
• You've experimented with automations, Boolean wizardry, or "hacks" to work more efficiently
• Comfortable giving product feedback or working with technical teammates

Cultural Fit
• Execution-oriented: you deliver results, not excuses
• Collaborative learner: ego doesn't get in the way of growing
• Comfortable with ambiguity: Moon Engine is pre-launch — things will change
• Naturally curious: you want to understand how things work, not just use them
• Long-term thinker: you see this as a multi-year journey to become a recruiting + AI expert
Why This Opportunity Matters
Most recruiters will eventually have to learn AI. You'll be years ahead.

You're not choosing between being a great recruiter or learning AI — you're mastering both while helping build the platform. Think of it like learning digital marketing in 2005. Early movers win.

What You Gain
• Competitive base + commission + bonus with long-term upside as Moon Engine scales
• Clear path to Principal Technical Recruiter within 18–24 months for strong performers
• Direct mentorship from senior recruiters and the Head of Recruiting
• Deep AI recruiting expertise in 6–12 months
• Product influence — your feedback shapes what gets built
• Unlimited PTO + thought-leadership opportunities (events, podcasts, content)

We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
