What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Ad Operations Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Ad Operations Specialist, you need a solid understanding of digital advertising, campaign management, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with ad servers (such as Google Ad Manager), programmatic platforms, analytics tools, and industry certifications like the IAB Digital Media Certification is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing remote workflows and collaborating with clients and teams. These competencies are essential for ensuring campaigns run smoothly, optimizing performance, and achieving client goals in a fast-paced digital environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote Ad Operations roles, and how can they be managed effectively?

Professionals in remote Ad Operations often encounter challenges such as coordinating with cross-functional teams across different time zones, maintaining clear communication with clients, and ensuring accurate campaign implementation without in-person oversight. To manage these effectively, it's essential to leverage project management and communication tools, establish regular check-ins, and document processes thoroughly. Proactively addressing potential miscommunications and setting clear expectations with stakeholders can help ensure campaigns run smoothly and deadlines are met.

They work closely with sales, marketing, and technical teams to maximize the effectiveness of advertising efforts, using tools like ad servers, analytics platforms, and reporting dashboards. This role typically requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with digital advertising technologies.

Compensation: $50-$55 an hour on W2. Without benefits

Duration: 12 months contract

Overview:

As an Ad Operations Specialist, you will be essential to scaling customer acquisition efforts by ensuring the flawless and efficient launch of high-impact paid campaigns.

This role involves owning the execution and optimization of digital media campaigns in our ad server and paid media platforms.

Responsibilities include campaign setup, budget management, optimization to campaign KPIs, audience targeting integration and reporting.

You will act as a proactive self-starter, managing multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment to facilitate business growth.

Qualifications & Technical Expertise

A successful candidate will have:

  • Expert-level proficiency and hands-on experience with Google Campaign Manager 360 (CM360)
  • Deep expertise in DSPs like Display & Video 360 (DV360), The Trade Desk (TTD) and major social platforms including Meta (Facebook/Instagram), LinkedIn, and Reddit.
  • 3-6 years of dedicated experience in Ad Operations, Digital Media Operations, or Ad Technology roles.
  • Comfort with HTML, JavaScript, rich media formats, VAST/VPAID for video, and current cookie/privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Exceptional candidates will have experience with LiveRamp, Bomobra, Demandbase and other ABM or Audience focused vendors.

Key Responsibilities

1. Campaign Execution & Traffic Management

  • Meticulously build and launch campaigns, ad sets, and individual ads across key channels.
  • Manage the technical pipeline of performance marketing initiatives, contributing directly to the growth of a sophisticated e-commerce business.
  • Oversee audience targeting integration, manage audience match rates across platforms (TTD, Meta, Google/YouTube), and curate segments using tools like LiveRamp.

2. Technical Quality Assurance (QA) & Troubleshooting

  • Lead the technical QA process for all ad creative—including static, rich media, video, and third-party tags—to ensure they meet standards and fire correctly across web, mobile, and app platforms.
  • Systematically investigate and reconcile data discrepancies between the Google Ad Server, DSPs, and publisher reporting systems.
  • Be able to resolve complex ad-serving, tracking, and reporting issues with internal teams and external partners.

3. Performance Optimization & Reporting

  • Monitor and optimize campaigns to ensure they run without issue, managing budget pacing to avoid under/overspend, and hit campaign KPIs successfully.
  • Utilize Excel/Google Sheets for data manipulation and deliver standardized or custom reports from the Google Ad Server to provide performance insights.
  • Work closely with Campaign Strategists to create media plans based on historical performance data.
  • Document and implement scalable best practices for campaign trafficking and naming conventions to reduce human error.

Professional Attributes

  • Exceptional level of organization and meticulous attention-to-detail for error-free trafficking.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for managing diverse stakeholder groups and fostering internal and external relationships.
