What is remote ad operations?

Remote Ad Operations refers to managing and optimizing digital advertising campaigns from a remote location, rather than working onsite at an office. Professionals in this role are responsible for implementing, monitoring, and troubleshooting online ads across various platforms, ensuring campaigns run smoothly and meet clients' objectives. They work closely with sales, marketing, and technical teams to maximize the effectiveness of advertising efforts, using tools like ad servers, analytics platforms, and reporting dashboards. This role typically requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with digital advertising technologies.

What skills and qualifications are needed for remote ad operations?

To thrive as a Remote Ad Operations Specialist, you need a solid understanding of digital advertising, campaign management, and data analysis, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with ad servers (such as Google Ad Manager), programmatic platforms, analytics tools, and industry certifications like the IAB Digital Media Certification is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing remote workflows and collaborating with clients and teams. These competencies are essential for ensuring campaigns run smoothly, optimizing performance, and achieving client goals in a fast-paced digital environment.

What are common challenges in remote ad operations, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote Ad Operations often encounter challenges such as coordinating with cross-functional teams across different time zones, maintaining clear communication with clients, and ensuring accurate campaign implementation without in-person oversight. To manage these effectively, it's essential to leverage project management and communication tools, establish regular check-ins, and document processes thoroughly. Proactively addressing potential miscommunications and setting clear expectations with stakeholders can help ensure campaigns run smoothly and deadlines are met.

Job description

The Manager, Ad Operations role is a key member of StackAdapt's Ad Operations team, leading a team of Ad Operations Specialists responsible for campaign setup, QA, troubleshooting, pacing, and optimization support across our programmatic channels. Reporting to the Director of Ad Operations, you'll help ensure campaigns are launched accurately, delivered effectively, and supported by strong operational processes.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys combining people leadership with deep programmatic expertise and a continuous improvement mindset. As the team continues to evolve from manual campaign execution toward a more automated and optimization-focused model, you'll help coach the team, improve workflows, and partner cross-functionally to build more scalable ways of working.

StackAdapt is a remote-first company and we are open to candidates located anywhere in Canada and the US for this position.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of Ad Operations Specialists, fostering accountability, curiosity, and continuous learning
  • Overseeing campaign setup, trafficking, QA, troubleshooting, pacing, and delivery across StackAdapt's programmatic channels
  • Supporting the team's evolution toward a more automated and optimization-focused operating model
  • Coaching specialists on campaign optimization support, including pacing analysis, performance troubleshooting, and actionable recommendations
  • Partnering with Account Management, Account Executives, Client Partnerships, Product, and Engineering to improve workflows, handoffs, tooling, and campaign outcomes
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline processes through automation, templates, SOPs, and scalable operating practices
  • Tracking team performance, workload, quality, and operational metrics to identify gaps and share recommendations with leadership
What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • 6+ years of experience in programmatic advertising, campaign management, ad operations, or a related digital media function
  • Direct people management experience, ideally leading a team responsible for campaign execution, optimization, trading, or technical campaign support
  • Hands-on experience optimizing or trading programmatic campaigns, including pacing, performance analysis, troubleshooting, and recommendation-building
  • Strong technical understanding of the programmatic ecosystem, including DSP workflows, campaign setup, bidding dynamics, pixels, QA, and optimization best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and help implement scalable solutions across teams
  • A high-curiosity mindset with an interest in automation, systems, operational efficiency, and the continued evolution of programmatic advertising
  • Strong communication skills, accountability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
