Job Title: Epidemiologist 1
Location: Nashville, TN – Hybrid
Duration: 9 months (W2 Contract)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM CST, 37.5 hours/week
Eligibility: Current Tennessee residents only; monthly or as-needed travel to Nashville required. Travel is not reimbursable.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an Epidemiologist 1 to support the Community Health Access and Navigation in Tennessee (CHANT) Initiative. The position will perform professional scientific and epidemiological assessments, develop and maintain CHANT data collection enhancements, support data analysis and reporting, and assist with integration of CHANT into a new data system.

CHANT combines three care coordination programs — HUGS, CSS, and TennCare Outreach — into one overarching care coordination program. The program uses REDCap for data collection, program evaluation, and program oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain enhancements to the CHANT data collection project.

  • Build and modify REDCap data collection modules based on programmatic requirements.
  • Implement SAS code changes and REDCap project updates as monitoring guidance and processes evolve.
  • Prepare routine weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on program participation and outcomes.
  • Pull, clean, analyze, and submit recurring CHANT reports accurately and on schedule.
  • Write independent code and test outputs for accuracy.
  • Create data outputs and visualizations to support CHANT and MCH surveillance projects.
  • Provide technical assistance to non-technical staff regarding REDCap systems, SOPs, and task guidance.
  • Respond to data inquiries from regional teams, leadership, stakeholders, and public health partners.
  • Fulfill ad-hoc data analysis and reporting requests.
  • Translate programmatic requirements into appropriate data collection solutions.
  • Support the integration of the CHANT program into a new data system.
  • Work closely with the MCH Programs Team to support surveillance projects and program evaluation.
  • Provide information and analytical support to internal and external partners.
  • Work effectively in a remote environment and report to the Nashville office monthly or as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Public Health Biostatistics, Statistics, or Health Information.

OR

  • Master's degree in Health Science, Biomedical Science, or Environmental Science with two years of equivalent experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistics, health informatics, health sciences, biomedical sciences, or environmental sciences.
  • Extensive experience with REDCap and ability to quickly develop data collection systems.
  • Proficiency with SAS programming/statistical software.
  • Experience managing electronic data and navigating complex databases.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to independently write code and validate analytical outputs.
  • Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work remotely and collaborate effectively with public health teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with public health and health data, including vital records or health survey data.

  • Experience deploying or implementing application systems or related technologies.
  • Foundation in system design, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Experience with public health surveillance and program evaluation.
