Job description

Description

An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Project Coordinator is available at the New England College of Optometry (NECO). We are seeking a motivated individual with experience in clinical research to help us lead studies on myopia at NECO's Children's Vision Lab.

The research coordinator will work closely with the principal investigators and the interdisciplinary team in one or more NIH funded studies. The primary study is PICNIC, a longitudinal study in children that aims to understand the intrinsic mechanisms whereby some children develop myopia. This information will be critical for the design of effective myopia prevention and control treatments.

The team involves experts in pediatric optometry, neuroscience, vision science and electrophysiology. We use a variety of clinical and laboratory research methodologies, including psychophysics, aberrometry, gaze-contingent eye-tracking and biometry.

A successful candidate will be a self-starter who possesses keen attention to detail and an ability to learn complex protocols quickly. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.

The salary for this position is $60,000. This is a full-time position funded for a minimum of 1.5 years (funding is available for a minimum of 5 years). Schedule is somewhat flexible and requires regular in person work, some early evenings and occasional Saturdays. NECO is an independent institution renowned as a leading myopia research and clinical center.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and implement recruitment methods, including organizing local school screenings and community outreach.
  • Perform pre-screening interviews with potential participants' families to determine eligibility.
  • Efficiently manage study visit appointments, carefully coordinating with investigators' schedules.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the project's protocol, as well as compliance with best clinical practice and research standards.
  • Capture and maintain accurate electronic data in an online database (REDCap); promptly respond to data check queries.
  • Manage inventory and study supplies.
  • Oversee the Children's Vision Lab, including equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Other small project-related tasks or administrative support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in a healthcare, science or related field.
  • Basic understanding of clinical research processes.
  • Basic computer data entry skills, including Excell. Experience with REDCap is a plus.
  • Previous experience in clinical research is recommended but not required.
  • Previous experience in patient care or recruitment of research participants are a plus.
  • Previous experience in optometry testing is a plus.
  • HIPAA and Human Subjects Research training (CITI) must be completed upon hiring (will be provided if needed)

**Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or English/Mandarin) is strongly preferred but not required.
