What is recruiting?

Recruiting is the process of identifying, attracting, interviewing, selecting, and hiring qualified candidates for jobs within an organization. Recruiters work to fill open positions by sourcing talent through job postings, networking, and other means, ensuring candidates are a good fit for both the role and the company culture. The recruiting process often includes screening resumes, conducting interviews, coordinating with hiring managers, and guiding candidates through the hiring process. Effective recruiting helps companies build strong teams and maintain a competitive edge.

What is the difference between Recruiting vs Human Resources?

AspectRecruitingHuman Resources
Primary FocusFinding and attracting candidatesManaging employee relations, policies, and overall HR functions
Required CredentialsOften a recruiting certification or HR-related degreeHR certifications like SHRM or HRCI often preferred
Work EnvironmentRecruitment agencies, corporate HR departments, staffing firmsCorporate offices, HR departments, organizational settings
Employer & Industry UsageUsed across industries for talent acquisitionUsed for broader employee management and organizational development

Recruiting primarily focuses on sourcing and hiring candidates, while Human Resources encompasses a wider range of employee management tasks. Both roles are essential in the hiring process but serve different functions within organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recruiter, you need strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of talent acquisition strategies, and typically a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), recruiting platforms like LinkedIn, and sometimes professional certifications such as SHRM-CP or AIRS are common requirements. Outstanding communication, active listening, and relationship-building skills help recruiters excel in engaging candidates and collaborating with hiring managers. These abilities are crucial for identifying top talent, ensuring a positive candidate experience, and meeting organizational hiring goals.

What are some common challenges recruiters face when filling specialized or hard-to-fill positions?

Recruiters often encounter challenges such as a limited talent pool, highly specific skill requirements, and increased competition from other companies when filling specialized or hard-to-fill roles. These positions may require creative sourcing strategies, proactive outreach, and close collaboration with hiring managers to clearly define must-have qualifications. Additionally, recruiters may need to negotiate with candidates who receive multiple offers and ensure a positive candidate experience to stand out as an employer of choice.

Job description

Company Description Horus Recruiting is an embedded recruiting partner built by experienced operators who specialize in scaling high-performing teams. The company integrates seasoned recruiters, sourcers, and recruiting coordinators directly into client organizations from pre-seed through IPO, acting as a true extension of internal teams. Horus Recruitingโ€™s team has hired for leading companies such as DoorDash, Plaid, Discord, Figma, Amazon, Twitter, and Meta, bringing proven care, speed, and precision to every engagement. The firm is deeply experienced with major ATS platforms like Ashby, Greenhouse, and Lever, as well as tools such as LinkedIn Recruiter, Gem, Juicebox, and Humanly, and knows how to integrate and optimize them for better recruiting outcomes. Its flexible model allows clients to scale recruiting up or down while benefiting from robust process design, tooling, and talent strategy that build durable recruiting operations.

Role Description This is a contract, remote Recruiting Coordinator role based in the US. The Recruiting Coordinator will support the full recruiting lifecycle by scheduling interviews, coordinating candidate communications, and ensuring a smooth and timely interview process across multiple stakeholders. The role includes managing calendars, updating applicant tracking systems, preparing interview materials, and maintaining accurate candidate records. The coordinator will interact closely with recruiters and hiring managers, help organize onsite interview loops and recruiting events, and contribute to process improvements and documentation. This position requires a strong focus on candidate experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting coordination or a related talent acquisition support role, including interview scheduling and candidate communication.
  • Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (e.g., Ashby, Lever, Greenhouse)
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple roles and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on delivering a positive, professional candidate experience.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with recruiters, hiring managers, and cross-functional partners in an on-site team environment.
  • Comfort with process documentation, workflow optimization, and basic data entry or reporting related to recruiting activities.
  • High level of reliability, discretion, and attention to detail when handling confidential candidate and company information.
  • Prior experience supporting high-growth or startup environments and familiarity with technology or operations-focused roles is a plus
