What does a payroll temp do?

A Payroll Temp is a temporary employee who assists with payroll processing and related administrative tasks in an organization. Their responsibilities typically include entering employee hours, verifying timesheets, assisting with paycheck calculations, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations. Payroll Temps may also help resolve payroll discrepancies and answer basic employee questions about pay. They are usually hired during peak periods or to cover for permanent staff absences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a payroll temp, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Payroll Temp, you need strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and knowledge of payroll processes, often supported by experience in finance or accounting. Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, QuickBooks, or Paychex, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Excel, is typically required. Excellent organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to communicate clearly are valuable soft skills for this position. These skills ensure timely, error-free payroll processing and maintain compliance with legal and organizational standards.
