Interim Director of Payroll Location: Remote Job Type: Long term contract, approximately 2 years Start Date: ASAP Overview We are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Payroll to support a large healthcare organization during a major HRIS and payroll system transition. This role will lead day to day payroll operations for a high volume multi state workforce while internal leaders focus on a Workday implementation. The ideal candidate is a hands on payroll leader who can ensure accuracy compliance and operational stability in a complex environment.

Key Responsibilities Lead and oversee day to day payroll operations for a large multi-state organization Provide leadership and oversight to payroll managers and specialists Ensure accurate and timely processing across multiple payroll cycles Standardize document and improve payroll processes and controls Audit payroll transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance Resolve payroll discrepancies quickly and effectively Ensure compliance with all federal state and local payroll and tax laws Ensure payroll taxes and filings are completed accurately and on time Partner with HR and Finance on payroll reporting and forecasting Support internal and external audits related to payroll Assist with system testing controls and process validation related to a future Workday implementation Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll related questions Team Environment Remote payroll team supporting approximately 25000 employees Role provides operational coverage while internal leaders support an ERP implementation Required Qualifications Eight or more years of payroll experience Five or more years of payroll leadership or management experience Experience supporting high volume multi state payroll environments Strong knowledge of payroll compliance tax regulations and controls Preferred Experience Experience with large scale payroll systems or HRIS platforms Prior experience with Lawson or similar payroll systems Experience supporting organizations during system or ERP transitions Vaco by Highspring values a diverse workplace and strongly encourages women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and veterans to apply.
