Job description

The St. James is actively seeking an Events Associate at its Springfield, VA location.
The St. James is the premier sports, wellness, and active entertainment destination brand in the country, with a mission to maximize human potential by designing, developing and operating sports, wellness and entertainment destinations that engage, inspire and empower people to pursue their passions and be their best at play, at work and in life. Our flagship development in Springfield, Virginia features a premium health club, celebrity chef-inspired restaurant, premium medi-spa, 20,000 sq. ft. active entertainment center, as well as an indoor field house with FIFA-sized field, two NHL-regulation sized ice rinks, 52-meter Olympic competition pool and much, much more. The St. James allows the whole family to pursue their passions in 30+ sports.
The Events Associate will report directly to the Banquets & Events Manager for The St. James. This is a part-time employment opportunity. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends (mandatory) and holidays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the complete setup and breakdown of the banquet area.
  • Relay food and beverage orders.
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and awareness of sanitary practices.
  • Anticipate guests' needs and exceed customer service expectations.
  • Maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relay important information about orders, allergies and special requests to the appropriate person.
  • Respond urgently and appropriately to any concerns.
  • Present in professional appearance and mannerisms.
  • Welcoming guests upon their arrival and assisting them with their seating arrangements.
  • Assisting managers and organizers with planning the layout and logistics of events.
  • Developing and providing staff with the necessary training, including customer service and serving etiquette.
  • Managing the setup of events.
  • Running the floor and coordinating the food and drink service by liaising with the kitchen and service staff.
  • Monitoring the inventory of supplies, equipment, and furniture.
  • Tending to guests' requests, questions, and complaints.
  • Ensuring that the venue and facilities remain neat and clean.
  • Ensuring that all applicable safety regulations are communicated and adhered to.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Excellent leadership abilities and the ability to manage many staff members.
  • Great time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • The ability to provide an excellent level of customer service, even in stressful situations.
  • Physically fit with good stamina for physical tasks such as moving and lifting furniture and standing for long periods of time.
  • Willingness to work long hours, irregular shifts, and on weekends and holidays.
