Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Events, the Vice President, Event Business Development is a senior leader responsible for driving revenue growth across ACP's portfolio of conferences and trade shows, including CLEANPOWER, the organization's flagship event.ย 

This role leads the strategy and execution of sponsorships, exhibits, partnerships, and emerging revenue streams, with a focus on expanding into new markets, strengthening premier sponsorship offerings, and aligning event revenue with evolving industry demand. The Vice President partners closely with Marketing to shape integrated, market-facing offerings and ensure a cohesive approach to audience growth, positioning, and revenue generation.ย 

As a member of the events leadership team, the Vice Presidentย operatesย with strong judgment and a clear sense of ownership, taking a hands-on approach to evaluating and strengthening current structures, refining strategy, and improving performance across the portfolio. The role works across Events, Marketing, Membership, Programs, and Executive Leadership to align priorities, build strong internal partnerships, and translate evolving market conditions into clear, actionable revenue strategies that deliver measurable outcomes and support ACP's broader goals.ย

Event Revenue Strategy & Market Expansionย 

  • Define and lead a multi-year revenue strategy across ACP's event portfolio, aligning growth priorities with organizational goals and adjusting approach as market conditions evolve.ย ย 
  • Evaluate and evolve sponsorship andย exhibitย offerings, including premier sponsorship programs, to ensure they are clearly positioned, competitive, and deliver value to partners.ย ย 
  • Identifyย and develop net-new revenue opportunities across emerging sectors, adjacent industries, and new buyer segments, expanding ACP's reach and relevance.ย ย 
  • Assess market trends, competitive positioning, and member needs to inform pricing, packaging, and product development decisions.ย ย 
  • Balance near-term revenue delivery with longer-term market expansion, setting clear priorities and tradeoffs across events.ย 

Revenue Ownership & Performance Managementย 

  • Own and deliver event-related revenue across sponsorships, exhibits, and ancillary streams, with accountability for performance against established targets.ย ย 
  • Manage forecasting, budgeting, and revenue tracking, ensuring clear visibility into performance, pipeline health, and areas of risk.ย ย 
  • Establish and refine metrics that connect business development activity to revenue outcomes, strengtheningย accountabilityย and informing decision-making.ย ย 
  • Use data and financial insights to assess performance,ย identifyย gaps, and adjust strategy to improve results over time.ย ย 
  • Partner with Events and Finance to align revenue strategy with broader event performance and financial goals.ย 

Sales Leadership &ย Revenueย Performanceย 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of seven, including two Senior Directors, setting clearย expectationsย and fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and follow-through.ย ย 
  • Set sales strategy, priorities, and targets across the event portfolio, aligning team efforts to broader revenue goals.ย ย 
  • Establish andย maintainย disciplined pipeline management and forecasting practices to support consistent performance and visibility.ย ย 
  • Provide direction and support on complex or high-value opportunities, helping to navigate challenges and close key deals.ย ย 
  • Build strong internal alignment across teams to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to revenue development.ย 

Cross-Functional Leadership & Market Positioningย 

  • Partner closely with Marketing to co-develop go-to-market strategies, integrated offerings, and messaging that support revenue growth and audience engagement.ย ย 
  • Collaborate with Events Operations, Programming, and Membership to ensure alignment between revenue strategy, attendee experience, and organizational priorities.ย ย 
  • Build strong working relationships across teams, aligning stakeholders around shared goals and ensuring clarity in roles, priorities, and execution.ย ย 
  • Contribute to executive-level discussions on event growth, market positioning, and revenue performance, offering clear, informed perspectives.ย ย 
  • Represent ACP with external stakeholders, including sponsors and partners, strengtheningย relationshipsย and supporting long-term engagement.ย 

Education, Experience & Skills

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in event business development, sponsorship sales, partnerships, or revenue strategy, preferably within a trade association, large-scale events organization, media, or related environment.ย ย 
  • Experience owning or contributing to multi-million-dollar revenue portfoliosย ($20M+), with a demonstrated ability to grow revenue, expand into new markets, and develop net-new business opportunities.ย ย 
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategy and translate it into execution, balancing long-term planning with near-term delivery and evolving priorities.ย ย 
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with forecasting, budgeting, and using data to assess performance and guide decision-making.ย ย 
  • Experience leading and developing teams, setting clear expectations, providing direction, and driving accountability across direct and indirect stakeholders.ย ย 
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence across teams and levels, working effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.ย ย 
  • Sound judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity, assess tradeoffs, and make decisions aligned with organizational priorities.ย ย 
  • Clear and effective communication skills, withย experienceย engaging senior stakeholders and contributing to executive-level discussions.ย ย

Job Conditions

We are a fast-paced, high-energyย organizationย a very ambitiousย agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Regular travel across the country for meetings or events may beย required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.ย 

Weย reasonably believeย that the base salary range for this position is $220,000 - 250,000.ย At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
