As a result, unlike many other OEM or supplier organizations, Garrett Advancing Motion has visibility across a broad range of OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers.

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Export Control Manager to ensure compliance with the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The role is critical to ensuring compliance with export controls and sanctions regulations.ย 

The Export Control Manager will be responsible for managing and ensuring the company's adherence to U.S. export control regulations by implementing and maintaining an effective due diligence program. The role involves establishing trade compliance strategies, risk management, conducting internal audits, managing restricted party screening, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes affecting U.S. trade activities. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal departments (legal, tax, sales, procurement, engineering, etc) customs brokers, trade compliance service provider and legal advisors, as well as with U.S. Customs and other relevant government agencies. ย 

Responsibilities include:ย 

  • Export Control Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC regulations, and other government agency requirements.
  • Restricted Party Screening and Sanctions Compliance
    • Implement and manage processes for screening transactions and business partners against denied and restricted parties lists through integrated screening and risk management tools.
    • Create RPL and risk dashboard for regular legal review.
  • End Use / End User Compliance Solicitation
    • Implement and oversee structured yearly solicitation program for suppliers and manage document requests for customers.
  • Internal Controls and Audits
    • Develop, implement, and maintain export compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.ย 
    • Conduct internal audits to assess compliance with U.S. export regulations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Training and Education
    • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on U.S. export requirements, focusing on export control laws, licensing procedures, and other regulatory obligations.
  • Government Interface
    • Liaise with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and applicable U.S. government agencies.
  • ย Risk Management
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with export activities.ย 
    • Keep abreast of regulatory changes and develop strategies to address potential compliance challenges.
  • Trade Data Management
    • Ensure accurate and timely record keeping of trade transactions.ย 
    • Maintain and enhance trade automation tool with respect to sanctions, embargoes and anti-boycott compliance.
  • Collaboration and Cross-functional Support
    • Work closely with other departments (e.g., legal, supply chain, logistics, procurement) to ensure smooth and compliant import/export processes.
  • Export Licensing and Documentation
    • Manage export license applications in trade compliance tool and maintain records per U.S. export regulations.ย 

Basic Qualifications:ย 

  • ย Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business, Law, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in trade compliance, specifically in U.S. import/export regulations, with a strong focus on export control.
  • Relevant professional certification (e.g., ECoP, CXS, Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP), Licensed Customs Broker)
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. trade laws, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC regulations, and U.S. Customs requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage restricted party screenings and sanction compliance program.
  • Excellent understanding of ECCN, HTS and Schedule B classificationย 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience in interacting with U.S. government agencies and managing audits
