Job description

Data Migration Specialist

The Data Migration Specialist is responsible for migrating data from Oracle to MS SQL Server database. The ideal candidate would have participated in large data migration projects, and have experience migrating data to MS SQL Server. Experience with the AMANDA database is a plus. AMANDA is a solution from Granicus (formerly Calytera). THIS IS NOT THE ADVANCED MARYLAND AUTOMATIC NETWORK DISK ARCHIVER (AMANDA).

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to data standards and scripting standards set at the project level
  • Analyze existing Oracle and MS Access databases
  • Work with Business Analysts to understand the requirements and identify gaps between requirements and data in existing databases.
  • Map existing databases fields to new AMANDA database fields
  • Document and validate data mapping with the Project team.
  • Develop and document the data migration plan in collaboration with Data Architect.
  • Execute data migration plan by migrating data from the source databases to the AMANDA database.
  • Apply the data governance rules as well as data retention policies to data migration
  • Support efforts to cleanse source data via scripts and/or reports identifying data requiring manual cleansing
  • Review AMANDA table structure based on the design in AMANDA for mapping the data from source to Amanda database structure
  • Collaborate with other Data Migration Specialists and review each other’s scripts to ensure consistency
  • Test data migration processes and validate data was migrated correctly.
  • Manage data migration scripts by versioning them via source control
  • Constantly work to fine-tune data migration scripts to improve performance.
