Position Summary
The Business Development Lead is responsible for executing a business plan that identifies new sales opportunities by working in conjunction with regional design-build divisions, supporting Southland Energy's incentive consulting business goals. The BDL will develop key Southland internal business relationships and closely collaborate with contacts in public utilities and associated utility consultants to achieve business bottom-line growth and revenue goals.
Position Details
  • Develops and executes business development strategies to drive growth. Supports local Division teams in customer interactions.
  • Works in conjunction with management to develop and execute sales strategies for target clients as well as other potential clients.
  • Partners with the cross-functional team, which may include project finance, operations, legal, marketing, and communications to secure new business and support positive customer experiences.
  • Participates in and support customer meetings and contract negotiations.
  • Maintains a revenue and margin quota and robust sales funnel.
  • Schedules appointments and meetings with internal Southland customers to review and define program opportunities and desired success parameters, and to qualify opportunities.
  • Develops, maintains, and expands key and target relationships across the relevant market.
  • Gains understanding of their business problems, future needs, and how Southland can support those endeavors.
  • Attends networking and trade show professional events to obtain leads, presents a positive public company image, and expands knowledge of critical issues facing our customer base.
  • Conducts research to identify potential strategic partnerships and new market opportunities.
  • Support incentive project managers with staffing/labor forecasting, forecast and track incentive payments, communicates changes to construction schedules and completion dates, and advises Energy leadership on progress and changes to client relationships which may be impactful to business operations and forecasts.
  • Develops detailed working knowledge of utility incentive programs available in assigned region(s), including working relationships with utility program managers, engineers, and consultants.
  • Develop subject matter expertise w/r/t incentive programs and act as a resource to internal Southland teams as well as Southland clients. Work with internal Southland teams to suggest options to maximize/optimize rebate potential within client's operating parameters.
  • Develop and maintain market knowledge regarding upcoming changes to incentive programs and related issued that may impact timing, as well as pending incentive changes under consideration by state-level regulators (Public Utility Commission, etc.).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or business is preferred, or equivalent combination. of technicaltraining and or related experience.
  • 5 years' relevant professional experience.
  • Deep working knowledge of utility incentives, typical construction methodologies, energy conservation issues related to design, maintenance, and operations, and measurement/verification practices.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain working relationships internal and external to Southland.
  • Establish a reputation as an incentive subject matter expert across assigned Southland divisions.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels of internal and external organizations.
