Anytime the economy is up, jobs in culinary industries are in higher demand. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics predicts culinary jobs to grow by 10% by 2026, which is faster than the average career. There is a high rate of turnover in lower level culinary jobs like line and prep cooks, so those jobs almost always have a high demand, especially in areas where the restaurant and tourism industries are big. However, the same person usually holds head cook and chef jobs for quite some time, so they can be more difficult to attain.
| Aspect | Culinary | Chef |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Often no formal certification required; culinary training or courses common | Formal culinary education or apprenticeship typically required |
| Work Environment | Restaurants, catering, food service, culinary schools | Restaurants, hotels, private kitchens, culinary competitions |
| Industry Usage | Broad term for food preparation skills and knowledge | Specific role as a professional responsible for kitchen operations |
| Search & Comparison Intent | People exploring culinary skills or careers in food service | Individuals seeking chef roles or culinary leadership positions |
While 'Culinary' refers broadly to the skills, knowledge, and industry related to food preparation, a 'Chef' is a specific professional role within that industry, often with formal training and leadership responsibilities. Understanding this difference helps job seekers and employers clarify roles and expectations in the food service industry.

Our venues are high-energy, high-volume environments where performance matters and results are visible. WHAT WE’RE SEEKINGDo you hold the line on quality even when it is busy? Can you lead a kitchen team through a high-volume service and still have the team better when the shift ends than when it started? We are looking for a Culinary Manager who leads from the front. Someone who understands food cost and portion control, coaches their team through the work, and takes genuine ownership of the kitchen's performance. Consistency is not lucky. It is what happens when a leader pays attention. If you run a tight, proud kitchen, this is where those matter.

This role requires both culinary expertise and the ability to lead, coach, and develop the kitchen team. The Culinary Manager may be responsible for day-to-day line operations or events execution. They supervise the kitchen team, manage inventory and product ordering, enforce safety and sanitation standards, and maintain the quality and consistency Topgolf guests expect. As a leader of a high-energy, guest-facing venue, this role requires a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with availability to work extended hours during peak periods, special events, and high-volume seasons.
